SIDNEY – The Shelby County Land Reutilization Corp. acquired another property and demolished two properties in the past month.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Land Bank Director Doug Ahlers reported the organization acquired 16377 County Road 25A, Anna, bringing the total number of units acquired by the Land Bank to 70.

The new acquisition on County Road 25A has a large amount of transite siding and will require significant asbestos removal at a cost of $6,500. Also, both buildings on the property are full of junk that will need to be removed in order to remove the asbestos. The estimate for junk removal is $6,166.

The Land Bank also demolished properties at 617 Ronan St. and 824 Linden Ave., both in Sidney. The Land Bank has demolished 65 units and sold four units.

There also are several properties in various stages of foreclosure, and Land Bank is in the process of acquiring more properties. It’s currently negotiating the donation of three properties in Sidney.

The Land Bank is purchasing the tax lien at 716 E. Court St. in Sidney for a discounted price of $2,500. Once the lien is released, the Land Bank will proceed with the foreclosure.

The Shelby County Land Bank has submitted for reimbursement a total of $1,103,354.63 and has been approved for $968,211.09 so far by the Neighborhood Initiative Project of the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.

Ahlers reported that because of the wet fall and spring, some greening has been delayed. Ten lots were seeded during May, and five properties remain to be seeded with $3,650 being held for that purpose.

Ahlers said the Land Bank’s annual report was submitted to the state auditor on May 9. The report is available for public review in the group’s offices. The Shelby County Land Bank has requested a bi-annual audit going forward.

Land Bank’s next meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. July 2 in the County Annex.
