FORT LORAMIE — Collin Moore threw two touchdown passes in the first quarter and Nate Meyer and Carter Mescher scored on TD runs in the first half to help the squad amass an insurmountable lead in a 59-8 victory over Mississinawa Valley on Friday.
It’s the fourth consecutive running-clock win over a Cross County Conference opponent for the Redskins (7-1, 5-0 CCC), which now sit alone atop conference standings after Covington’s 57-0 victory over previously undefeated Ansonia on Friday.
Moore threw his second TD pass of the night as time expired in the first quarter to give Fort Loramie a 27-0 lead. The squad led 40-0 at halftime, and Nick Brandewie and Meyer scored on TD runs in the third quarter to boost the advantage to 53-0.
Fort Loramie will continue CCC next week against Twin Valley South in its final regular-season home game.
Waynesfield-Goshen 34, Lehman Catholic 14
After a close first half, Lehman couldn’t keep up in the second half and lost its second consecutive Northwest Central Conference game on Friday at Sidney Memorial Stadium.
It’s the second consecutive season the Cavaliers have lost to the Tigers.
Waynesfield-Goshen led 7-0 at halftime and added two quick TDs in the third quarter on a 43-yard pass and a 43-yard interception return. Lehman pulled within 21-7 after scoring on a TD run late in the quarter, but the Tigers scored on another 43-yard pass on the first play of the fourth quarter to take a 28-7 lead.
Lehman (3-5, 3-2 NWCC) travels to Upper Scioto Valley this Friday.
Minster 27, Marion Local 26
The Wildcats pulled ahead early in the third quarter on Friday in Maria Stein and held on thanks to a missed two-point conversion and extra point by Marion Local in the second half. It’s their first win over the Flyers since 2010.
With the win, Minster (7-1, 5-1) is in a four-way tie for first place in the MAC. The Wildcats, Flyers, Anna and Coldwater are 5-1 in league play.
Jacob Niemeyer threw a short touchdown pass to Bryan Falk late in the second quarter to tie it 14-14 and then scored on a 4-yard run midway through the third quarter to put Minster ahead 21-14.
Marion Local’s Kyle Muhlenkamp threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Charles Huelsman a minute later, but a two-point conversion try didn’t work, allowing Minster to retain the lead at 21-20.
Niemeyer threw another short TD pass to Falk early in the fourth quarter, but Falk missed the extra-point attempt, keeping the lead at 27-20.
Muhlenkamp scored on a 48-yard run with 9:24 left, but an extra point attempt by Alex Klosterman was no good. The Wildcats held on from there.
Niemeyer completed 16-of-19 passes for 147 yards and three TDs. Alex Schmitmeyer ran for 186 yards on 41 carries. Brendan Bornhorst led Minster with six receptions for 45 yards and one TD. Falk finished with 25 receiving yards on five receptions.
Trent Roetgerman had 3.5 tackles and recovered one fumble. Bornhorst had an interception.
Minster had 338 total yards of offense while Marion Local had 329.
The Wildcats (7-1) will host Versailles this Friday.
New Bremen 23, Versailles 7
The Cardinals pulled away from Versailles to earn a MAC victory on Friday in New Bremen.
The Tigers took a 7-0 lead with 4:19 left in the first quarter on an 8-yard run by Landon Henry. Zach Bertke scored on a 56-yard TD run midway through the second quarter, but New Bremen’s Owen Gabel missed the extra point.
Gabel redeemed himself before the end of the half, though, by making a 26-yard field goal with one second left to put New Bremen ahead 9-7.
Mitchell Hays scored on a 15-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter to increase the advantage to nine points, then Bertke scored on a 29-yard run with 1:36 left to ice it.
Hays completed 8-of-16 passes for 87 yards and ran for 118 yards on 20 carries. Bertke finished with 121 rushing yards on 16 carries and led the squad with 8.5 tackles. Hays and Wyatt Dicke each intercepted a pass.
Ryan Martin completed 10-of-19 passes for 115 yards with two interceptions for Versailles. Jared DeMange led the squad with 85 receiving yards on four catches. Eli McEldowney caught a team-high six passes for 30 yards. Adam Kremer led the team with 11 tackles while McEldowney had nine.
New Bremen had 435 yards of offense while Versailles had 153.
The Cardinals (6-2, 4-2) will travel to Delphos St. John’s this Friday. Versailles (3-5, 2-4) will travel to Minster.
Riverside 20, Upper Scioto Valley 6
The Pirates won their second consecutive NWCC game by pulling away in the second half on Friday in De Graff.
Upper Scioto Valley scored in the first quarter on a 17-yard pass from Kaden Hurley to Devan Sousley but Riverside junior quarterback Kale Long tied it 6-6 in the second quarter on a 4-yard TD run.
Long scored on a 1-yard run in the third quarter to put the Pirates ahead by seven points, then threw a 5-yard pass to Ethan Jackson in the fourth quarter to finish off the win.
Long led the team with 70 rushing yards on 15 carries and completed 7-of-13 passes for 66 yards. Jackson gained 66 rushing yards on two carries. Deven Frilling intercepted one of three passes for Riverside.
The Pirates had 189 total yards of offense with no turnovers while Upper Scioto Valley had 227 yards.
Riverside (4-4, 3-2 NWCC) will continue conference play this Friday when it hosts Lima Perry, which is undefeated in conference play.
