Blessing Box needs assistance

SIDNEY — Sidney First Presbyterian Church reports their Blessing Box is empty! This cabinet, that is prominently located near the front sidewalk of the church, was built 1 1/2 years ago by their Eagle Scout Mason Hughes as a project to alleviate hunger in the vicinity.

The Rev. Diana Circelli said in the past month, she has seen folks walk up to the cabinet hoping to find food, but going away empty-handed.

“The coronavirus fears have closed churches and public activities, and that means people are not coming to stock the Blessing Box,” she said.

The Blessing Box is a chance for the community to help feed hungry people in our area by bringing non-perishable food and placing it in the box; then, anyone – day or night – can come and take what they need.

Circelli said, “And it would be best to wipe each can or package so the virus is not inadvertently spread. And many thanks to all who have contributed!”
