Couple celebrates 50 years

SIDNEY — Bill and Betsy Gosciewski will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022.

Bill and the former Betsy Newcomer were married on Feb. 26, 1972, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in Carey. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Bonneventure and Panico. Witnesses to the wedding were maid of honor Cheryl Newcomer, of Carey, and best man Robert Richey, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The couple met through a Theta Chi fraternity and Delta Zeta sorority hay ride, with Bill having attended Ohio Northern University and Betsy attended Findlay College.

Bill and Betsy are the parents of Amy and Michael Uhler, of Centerville, and Angie Gosciewski, of Sidney. They are the grandparents of Noah and Chloe Uhler, of Centerville.

Bill is originally from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Betsy is originally from Carey.

Bill worked at Copeland Corp and Stolle Corporation for 23 years in various engineering positions and retired in 2010 from the city of Sidney after 13 years as Public Works Director.

Betsy worked as a kindergarten teacher in Piqua before spending most of her 35-year teaching career as a learning disabilities teacher within the Sidney City School system before retiring in 2009.

Bill is a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, in Sidney. Betsy is a member of First United Methodist Church, in Sidney.
