PIQUA — The Kiwanis Club of Piqua and the Piqua Arts Council are bringing the Dayton Children’s Traveling Opera to Piqua Intermediate School on the morning of April 29, offering various interactive shows.

Performers will be presenting “The Barber of Seville” for fourth-grade students, and participants will be randomly selected to pantomime and act various roles in short opera scenes with professionals.

Dayton’s Children’s Traveling Opera (CTO) is an award winning and nationally renowned program providing students in grades 3 to 6 with the opportunity to participate in their own mini-opera production. The program has evolved since its inception in 1973. Over the years, the program has produced popular shows such as George Bizet’s beloved “Carmen”,Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” and Gioachino Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville”.

In the spring of 2022, Children’s Traveling Opera will offer various shows for elementary school students in the Greater Miami Valley area, including Piqua City Schools. Volunteers from the Guild coach the young actors backstage as the plot progresses, before having the students take part in the show.

The show is made possible by The Kiwanis Club of Piqua, who aims to make the world a brighter place by supporting projects for children, families, and our local community, and the Piqua Arts Council, who is dedicated to making the arts accessible to our community through education, support, and presentation.
