Where has the time gone?

Time sure does fly! Today as I write this column my first grandchild turned 6 months old already! I can’t believe it. He is growing so fast and he is developing his own personality and has no problem letting everyone know when he is not happy. My husband and I babysat a couple of weeks ago so that our son and daughter-in-law could go to his tenth high school reunion. Already? It seems like just yesterday that our boys were still riding bikes with training wheels. Where has the time gone?

September is a busy month. The kids go back to school and families will be getting back in the school days ‘routine.’ Farmers will be getting their equipment ready for the fall harvest. Summer outdoor activities will be ending and everyone will be looking forward to the fall and winter sports. Football games have already started and the team rivalries will be picked back up with favorite team jerseys being worn. Fall plants are being sold already. I bought a total of four mums this year, it will be interesting to see how long I can keep them alive since both my thumbs are black.

I look forward to September because I know the air conditioner will be turned off and I will no longer need my winter comforter on the bed… at least not until winter! My hubby likes to keep the house cool. No, scratch that, he likes to keep the house cold, but I don’t mind. It is easier for me to add a blanket than for him to sit and sweat. Since the oppressive 90 degree weather is taking a hike, I am spending more time on my covered patio. This is one of my happy places that I can relax and just let the day’s stress melt away.

The Senior Center is pretty busy this month too. On Friday, Sept. 16, we will be having our Annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser, 5–8 p.m. Cost will be $10 for adults, $5 for kids and will include spaghetti with meat sauce, bread stick and tossed salad. There will be several raffles you can take your chance on to win. This is open to the public and all proceeds will benefit the Senior Center.

The Area Agency on Aging will be doing another Healthy U Seminar covering the topic of Living with Chronic Conditions. This is free and open to the public age 50 or better. It will begin on Sept. 16 and run every Friday through Oct. 28. Seating is limited so call the Center at 937-492-5266 to register.

Last but not least, our Fall Dance will be on Friday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. This is open to the public age 50 or better with an admission of only $5 per person. Light refreshments and door prizes will be provided and the music will be by InReality Digital Dj. The theme is Country Barn Dance so dress in your best outfit to fit the theme and be entered into a special drawing.

Did you know that you only have to be 50 years of age or better to join the Center? Stop down, take a tour and claim your two free visits before joining. Let us show you all the wonderful activities we offer and our fantastic fitness room, complete with personal trainer.

Enjoy your September, I hope to see you at the Spaghetti Dinner or dance. Don’t forget about the Healthy U seminar!

Until I see you at the Center,

Have a Blessed Day!
