Sidney BOE awards spring coaching contracts

SIDNEY — Supplemental contracts for spring sports were awarded during Tuesday’s Sidney City Schools Board of Education meeting.

Tom Goffena will serve the district as the boys head golf coach. He will be paid $6,182. Kerri Adkins is the head softball coach. She will be paid $7,047. Kelly Carter is the junior varsity fastpitch coach. She will be paid $3,523. Chuck Westerbeck will be the freshman fastpitch/varsity assistant coach. He will be paid $3,938. The Sidney Middle School softball coach is Dave DeVelvis. He will be paid $1,865.

Thomas Goffena is the head baseball coach. He will be paid $7,420. Corey Cotterman is the junior varsity baseball coach. He will be paid $4,352. Scott Shirks will be the freshman baseball/varsity assistant baseball coach. He will be paid $3,938. Dan Dicke will be the SMS baseball coach. He will be paid $1,865. Mitch Ciregio was approved as a volunteer.

Bill McKinney is the head track coach for the boys team. He will be paid $6,093. Adam Doenges is the head coach for the girls track team. He will be paid $6,093. High school assistant track coaches are Allan Egbert, $4,570; Joe Stockton, $4,570; Kaitlyn Davis, $2,694; and Jaylen Herd, $2,694. SMS track coaches are Frank Hall, $3,917; Joe Spangler, $3,917; and ShaRhonda Combs, $3,731. Adam Doenges is the indoor track coach.

The tennis coach for the boys team is Donovan Gregory. He will be paid $6,093. Matt Casey will be the assistant tennis coach for the middle school. He will be paid $2,073. Kyle Coleman will serve as strength coach in the spring and summer. He will be paid $2,197 for each session.

The resignations of KrisSondra Wilaver, assistant cook/transportation, and Dave Voisard, bus driver, were accepted.

One-year limited contracts for certified substitutes were awarded to Erin Bremke, Laura Browner, Raenah Daniel, Makayla Kennedy, Nicholle Marchus, Jonathon Sybert and Ibrahima Watt. They will be paid $110 per day. Classified substitute contracts were given to Misty Wolaver, substitute cook, $10.83 per hour; Jonathon Sybert, substitute aid, $12.58 per hour; and Sara Sybert, substitute aid, $12.58 per hour.

Home instruction tutor contracts were given to Raquel Martin and Erin Koesters. They will receive $28.96 per hour. Elaine Tingler was hired as an assistant cook. She will be paid $12.92 hour.

Cody Myers was given a contract as for game help at athletic events.

In other business, the board:

• Approved payment to Kirk NationaLease for $16,451.23 for repairs to Bus No. 3, which was damaged in a crash.

• Approved the bid from Superior Seal Coating Cleaning LLC to replace/repair/paint the asphalt at Sidney Middle School at a cost of $110,950.

• Approved the bid from Superior Seal Coating Cleaning LLC for the 2023 district mowing needs at a cost of $65,000.

• Accepted a quote from Richard Smith & Sons Inc. for the flooring replacement and asbestos abatement at Longfellow Elementary at a cost of $190,202.

• Approved a contract with SSOE for professional design services for renovations/upgrades, drawings and bid document preparation for the Sidney High School auditorium refresh project at a cost of $36,600.

• Approved the license and subscription fee with PowerSchool for Unified Admin Timelock Plus for the period of April 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024, at a cost of $6,744 and implementation and training fees at a cost of $12,741.75, for a total cost of $19,485.75.

• Approved a purchased services agreement with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center of the 2022-23 school year for a sub teacher on special assignment at a cost of $29,051.68, and instructional assistant at a cost of $44,992.91.

• Approved an agreement with Dr. Maggie B. McGatha for the Cognitive Coaching Foundation Seminar to be conducted June 19-23, 2023; Feb. 6-7, 2024; and March 6-7, 2024, at a cost of up to $23,489.12. The cost of the seminar will be reimbursed by a grant with the MRESC.

• Approved a professional development agreement with Brainspring for Phonics First Level 1 In Person professional development from Aug. 7-11, 2023, at a cost of $34,125.

• Approved a one-time waiver of the five days missed limit criteria for qualifying to be eligible for the teacher’s sick leave incentive pay for the 2021-22 school year, to be paid in fiscal year 2023l.

• Approved the Latchkey handbook for the 2023-24 school year.

• Approved the revision of the entrance requirements policy for kindergarten eligibility date to be Aug. 1.

• Heard the legislative update by board member Greg Dickman.

• Heard the Upper Valley Career Center Board of Education meeting update by board member Michele Lott.

• Held two executive sessions.
