Man sentenced for vandalism at sheriff’s office

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Common Pleas Court recently handed down several sentences for endangering children, vandalism, violating protection orders, and possession of drugs, among other charges.

Sonja M. Smith, 37, of Sidney, was sentenced to community control to not exceed five years for endangering children, a misdemeanor in the first degree. Additionally Smith must successfully complete drug and alcohol counseling, parenting classes, and complete a Child Services case plan. Smith was indicted for endangering children, a third degree felony, for failure to provide proper supervision of a two year old, resulting in the child falling out of a second story window.

Michael E. McClellan, 36, currently in Shelby County Jail, was sentenced to five years of community control with no days of jail credit given, must successfully complete Thinking for a Change, mental health counseling, anger and rage counseling, and must obtain and maintain employment. McClellan must also pay restitution to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office of $1,425, for one count of vandalism for throwing a chair at a glass window at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, a fifth degree felony. McClellan was indicted on the same charge.

Nathaniel A. Craft, 27, currently in Shelby County Jail, was sentenced to 17 months in prison, with 84 days of credit given, for attempted failure to provide change of address, a fourth degree felony. Craft was indicted for failure to provide change of address, a third degree felony, for failure to notify the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office of change of address, having previously been convicted of gross sexual imposition.

Robbie G. Carr, 46, currently in Shelby County Jail, was sentenced to five years of community control with 111 days of jail credit given, for violating a protection order, a fifth degree felony. Carr must successfully complete treatment at a community based correctional facility, successfully complete mental health counseling, and must remain on prescribed medications, for one charge of violating protection order, a fifth degree felony. Carr was indicted for the same charge.

Joshua A. Elliston, 46, of Sidney, was sentenced to five years of community control, with 36 days of jail credit given, for the amended charge of attempted violating a protection order, a fourth degree felony. Additionally, Elliston must successfully complete Batterer’s Intervention Program, successfully complete treatment at a community based correctional facility and successfully complete all other counseling deemed appropriate. Elliston was indicated on one charge of violating a protection order, a third degree felony, and one charge of domestic violence, a fourth degree felony. One charge was dropped.

Terrance M. Thompson, 49, currently in Shelby County Jail, was sentenced to 11 months in prison, with 108 days of jail credit given, for one count of Possession of Drugs, a fifth degree felony. Thompson was indicted on one count of possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony, one count of possessing criminal tools, one count of resisting arrest, a second degree misdemeanor, and one count of furnishing false information to an officer, a first degree misdemeanor. Three counts were dismissed.

Jesse Orlando Pierce, 53, of Sidney, was sentenced to 17 months in prison, with 24 days jail credit given, for the charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fourth degree felony. Pierce was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a third degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, for possession of methamphetamine. One charge was dropped.

Bradley A. Taylor, 37, currently in Shelby County Jail, was sentenced to be imprisoned for 131 days, with 131 days of credit given, for attempted possessing of criminal tools, a first degree misdemeanor. Taylor was indicted on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a third degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, for possession of methamphetamine and a baggie used to store methamphetamine.

Greg S. Murray, 45, of Sidney, was sentenced to eight months in prison with seven days of jail credit given, for obstructing official business, a fifth degree felony. Murray was indicted on one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of an officer, a third degree felony, for willfully eluding or fleeing a police officer’s signal to stop, causing substantial risk of serious physical harm by traveling at excessive speeds, failure to stop at numerous stop signs, and passing vehicles on a double yellow line.
