SIDNEY — A fire at Stolle Machinery at 2900 Campbell Road at 1:14 a.m. on Jan. 27 caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

According to Sidney Assistant Fire Chief Jason Truesdale, Sidney Fire was responding to a fire alarm at Stolle. Upon arrival, first responders encountered a large two-story industrial building with an overhead door open and heavy smoke and fire inside the plant.

The first arriving unit deployed a preconnected attack line to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire. Firefighters’ quick actions led to a successful containment and quick knockdown of the fire. The main body of fire was located in the warehouse of the building near the loading docks and there was no further damage to other machines or the building structure.

The estimated property loss due to the fire is approximately $200,000 and the potential dollar loss for the shutdown of the process is in excess of $750,000.

In response to the incident, a box alarm was activated, summoning all off-duty Sidney firefighters, along with assistance from the Anna Fire Department, Lockington Fire Department, and a medic unit from Piqua Fire Department. A second alarm was transmitted for additional units from Botkins Fire, Fort Loramie Fire, Russia Fire, and Troy Fire Department’s ladder truck.

The Salvation Army responded with canteen supplies for responders. AES Power and Center Point were also called to the scene.

No injuries were sustained by firefighters, police officers, or occupants of the building.

Sidney Police managed traffic control in the area. The road was closed for an extended period to facilitate firefighting efforts.

The crews did have to respond to several medic calls within the city during the incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Sidney Fire Department investigation unit.
