March 19, 1896
Governor Bushnell yesterday appointed Dr. H.E. Beebe, of this city, to a six-year term on the State Board of Medical Examiners and Registration which was originated by the passage of the Kimmel bill. Dr. Beebe represents the Homeopathic school of physicians on the seven member board.

C.E. Thomson and E.D. Millhouse have formed a partnership and will open a furniture and undertaking establishment at Jackson Center the first of next month. Mr. Millhouse will conduct the business.

Barney Krampe is having a machine shop built at the rear of the blacksmith shop he is now occupying at Loramies.

The questions of the centralization of the schools in Clinton township and issuing bonds in the sum of $40,000 for erection of a centralized school on the present site of the Jimtown school house were both approved in yesterday’s vote. Although the vote was unanimous against centralization in Clinton South precinct, the proposal carried by 10 votes, 97 yes to 87 no.

Miss Grace Woodruff was soloist and accompanist in a musicale given under the auspices of the Piqua Fort nightly club at the home of Mrs. Logan Frazier Friday afternoon.

A team of horses belonging to George Argabright became frightened and ran away at noon today. The horses started near the Sidney Grain company elevator. They ran east to Ohio avenue and south to South street, where they broke down a telephone pole and ran into a tree before they stopped. No one was injured.

The recently appointed city planning commission held its first meeting yesterday afternoon in the office of Mayor Wheeler and took initial steps toward the employment of a consultant engineer for the preparation of a city plan for Sidney. Action taken by the group provides for the employment of Herbert W. Starick of Dayton, as the consultant. He is presently planning consultant for the city of Dayton.

A statement signed by 36 of the 37 elementary teachers in the Sidney schools today deplored the current dissension existing among parents relative to the organization of groups representing parents and teachers. The statement urged that the differences be composed and all groups work in harmony.

Greater deliberation, planning and cooperation will be keynotes to renew efforts to construct much needed additional hospital facilities for Shelby County. That was indicated by Gerald Billing of Sidney following Thursday night’s meeting of the County Health Planning Council.
Earlier this week Billing was elected new chairman of a 7-member hospital building committee, replacing Warren Loy of Botkins. Loy remains on the committee along with Patrick Milligan and Russell Comstock, both of Sidney; Dr. Richard Breece and William Joslin Jr., both of rural Sidney; and J. Cable Pepper of Perry township.

The tax issue on the ballot at Hardin-Houston for it schools narrowly passed. The .25% increase in income tax passed by a vote of 529-497. The funds will be used for permanent improvements. It was the fourth ballot attempt. Superindendent Tony Frierott was pleased.

Others indicted in connection with the murder of Wilma Arnett have entered please. Calvin Davis, the brother in law of the main defendant, Kevin Yarborough, has been charged with conspiracy. He is reportedly sick with AIDS and is in a facility. Also charged was James Bussey. The charge against him as also conspiracy. He eneted a plea of not guilty.
