The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 12-8 victory in extra innings. Reichert was 3 for 5 with 7 RBIs; she hit one home run and one double. Jackson, a shortstop, drew three walks and scored three runs. Paige Geuy was 2 for 4 with two doubles, Maryn Ludwig was 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs and Riley Barhorst was 2 for 5. Peyton Platfoot was 3 for 5 for Botkins while Maddi Frey was 2 for 4 with 6 RBIs, one triple, one double and one walk. Ella Brown was 2 for 4 with a triple. There were a combined 22 hits, 10 errors and eight walks in the game.

Softball: Four area teams earn top-10 D-IV seeds

Fort Loramie and Russia earned the highest seeds of any area softball quad, and Botkins and Houston also earned top 10 seeds in the 21-team Dayton Division IV sectional.

Larry Monnin, of Sidney, reads the back of a book at the Amos Memorial Public Library’s biannual book fair on Wednesday. Monnin said he was looking for whatever “catches my eye.” The book sale began on Saturday and will end on this coming Saturday. Around 2,000 books have been sold.

New Shelby County radio communications system activated

SIDNEY — The recently installed public safety radio communication system was activated during a ceremony at a tower on Gearhart Road near the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. The ceremony capped off a multi-year project to upgrade the county’s communications infrastructure.
