Piper celebrates 90 years

SIDNEY — Vera Piper, of Sidney, will celebrate her 90th birthday at an open house, Dec. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Sidney First United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

Piper was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Maplewood, the daughter of Lillie and Oscar Dowden, who are now deceased. She is the widow of Warren Yinger, Don Bell and Neal Piper.

Piper has a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Phil Courter, of Sidney, a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Patty Yinger, of Sidney, and five stepdaughters and two stepsons-in-law, Jacque Vondenhuevel, of Sidney, Sandy Martin, of Sidney, Glenda Piper, of Florida, Jane and Dave Stites, of Sunbury, and Janet and Gary Sorrell, of Powell. She has 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Piper graduated from Sidney High School in 1943. She volunteers at Sidney First United Methodist Church, the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Center and the Chaplain’s Auxiliary at Wilson Health.

She enjoys exercising at the YMCA and volunteering.
