Dayton Ballet seeks children for ‘Nutcracker’

DAYTON — Dayton Ballet has announced auditions for children’s roles in its 2017 production of “The Nutcracker.”

Auditions will be Sept. 24, in the Dayton Ballet’s downtown studios, 140 N. Main St., Fourth Floor, Dayton.

The audition schedule will be as follows:

12:30–1:45 p.m.: Children 11 to 12 for potential roles in the party and Mother Ginger scenes and as rats, soldiers, and Sugar Plum attendants.

2–3:30 p.m: Children 8 to 10 for potential roles as medium rats, soldiers, party children and Sugar Plum attendants.

3:45–5:15 p.m: Children 6 to 7 for potential roles as small rats, lambs and Sugar Plum attendants.

All dancers need to arrive a half-hour before listed time for registration. Dancers are required to provide a completed, printed audition form at the audition. Forms can be downloaded at www.daytonperformingarts.org/Nutcracker2017Auditions. Audition forms will also be available on the day of the audition but must be completed prior to signing in. Children must be at least 6 by Sept. 24, in order to audition. Parents should make sure their children attend the correct audition time their ages. There is no fee to audition, and no resume is required.

Audition attire for girls is solid-color leotard, pink tights and ballet shoes, with hair in a bun. Audition attire for boys is white T-shirt, black tights or leggings, socks and ballet shoes.

There will be a mandatory parents meeting for parents of accepted dancers only, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m. Children must attend all rehearsals for which they are scheduled. No more than one absence for illness will be permitted. All casting is final, and no changes can be made based on personal schedules.
