ST. MARYS — On Saturday, May 7, Grand Lake Health System will be holding its 3rd Annual Landen’s 5K for SIDS Awareness in St. Marys, Ohio.

Landen Phlipot was born May 3, 2011 to a Grand Lake Health System employees, Joey Phlipot and his wife Jessica. Unfortunately, due to SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) Landen’s life was short lived as he passed away before he was 3-months-old.

This event is held every year to celebrate Landen’s life and to promote education to parents, families, and caregivers about SIDS and Safe Sleep. Did you know that:

● SIDS is the leading cause of death in infants between 1 month and 1 year of age.

● Most SIDS deaths happen when babies are between 1 month and 4 months of age.

● Each year, about 4,000 infants die unexpectedly during sleep time, from SIDS, accidental

suffocation, or unknown causes.

●SIDS is not a risk for babies 1 year of age or older.

Landen’s 5k will be held at Grand Lake St. Marys on East Bank Road, in St. Marys Ohio.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. The 5k will begin at 9 a.m.

All walkers, runners, and families are invited to come out for this event. If you are a runner, Lima Run & Jog Club will be doing chip timing. Awards will be given to the overall male and female winners as well as top performers in the male and female age categories.

“This event is a very special one. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces, or nephews come and be involved in this family event. I would like to encourage people to walk in Landen’s memory and for the health and wellness of our babies of the future,” Linda Haines, Executive Director of the JTD Hospital Foundation, said.
