March 9, 1896
There still might be a baseball club in Sidney this summer. Those interested are requested to meet in the county recorder’s office next week. The main goal will be the raising of sufficient funds for the season.
The Sidney Electric Railway will become a reality. The company is issuing stock to those interested. Please see Charles Timeus. You will need to pay 10% of the stock price down immediately. The work of securing the right of way will begin as early as next week.

There is a new painting company in town. It is the Peter Cook and Sons partnership. They have erected a shop at 725 North Oak Avenue, east of the Buckeye Churn Plant. The men will engage in the painting of autos.
One of our community’s most respected financial man met with a bad fall on the north side of the square yesterday afternoon. J.F. Studevant was stepping out the door of the Voiretta Cafeteria when he fell, Mr. Studevant is 96 years old. He was considerable bruised about the hands and face as a result of the fall.

March 9, 1946
The Shelby County Board of Elections held its elections recently. They elect officers every two years by law. Serving during the next two years will be Roy Fry, chairman, Robert F. Kaser, clerk of the board, and Clyde Milhoff, deputy clerk. Other members of the board will be Carl Lehman and L.E. Marrs.
We all know there has been a recent string of burglaries in recent weeks in our county. An arrest in Champaign County may have solved our crimes as well. Three men were arrested in Urbana and placed in jail. It appears these men may have pulled off the Shelby County jobs.

March 9. 1971
Members of the newly formed Sidney Sunset Kiwanis Club met recently to elect chairmen for the coming events this year. The announcement was made by Jack McCoy and Don Bolllinger. The new chairmen will include James Abbott, Jacob Angerer, Ed Smith, Herb McVicker, Paul Shipman, Robert Burns, Robert McFarland and John Amos.
Pete Rose is disagreeing with the Cincinnati Reds management. The star certainly makes $105,000 per year. He batted 316 last year and is a two-time league batting champion. The Reds won’t pay him a dime more. Rose wants a modest raise.

The Building Industry Association of Shelby County selected Cynthia McRill as its member of the year. She has been a member for three years. McRill is the vice president of lending at Mutual Federal Savings and Loan. The announcement was made at the annual meeting of the association. John Westerheide is the outgoing president.
One of three men charged in the murder of Wilma Arnett was arraigned. Kevin Yarborough entered a plea of not guilty. The body of Arnett, who was murdered, was found alongside a road on May 10, 1994. Judge Schmitt indicated he will appoint two attorneys to represent him.
