SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA launched its annual Community Partners Campaign March 3, 2022, with a noon luncheon at the YMCA. This year’s campaign is co-chaired by Bridget Davis, executive director of Shelby County CASA/GAL and YMCA board member Allen York of CBT Company in Sidney.

Davis and York, long time members and YMCA volunteers, shared how the Y has made a personal difference in their lives and the lives of their family members and why they believe the Y organization is instrumental in shaping healthy and strong communities.

“As director of CASA,” said Davis, “We work with abused and neglected kids involved in the court system. The Y has been instrumental in providing safe spaces for these kids as well as families through childcare and memberships provided by the Community Partners campaign.”

York shared that his daughters are involved in YMCA programs and that he is a member of the Y Board.

“I do this because I see so many amazing things happening at the Y and I’m glad to give back to such a worthwhile organization,” York said. “Even if everyone gives a little something it all adds up to help our community.”

The testimonial speaker for this year‘s campaign kick-off was Cynthia Fisher, of Sidney, who talked about the difference the Y made in her management of the chronic disease with which she and her son both struggle.

“Thanks to the generosity of donors to this program this allows us to have unlimited access to work out at Y,” said Fisher. “I come and workout several days a week…without you we would not have had the opportunity to live healthier lives.”

The total 2022 campaign goal, between staff, board, public, and major gifts divisions, is $141,000, with all funds supporting the over $330,000 the Y provides annually and financial assistance to members of the community and childcare membership, youth programming, swim lessons, and chronic disease support programs.
