SIDNEY – Sidney Assistant Fire Chief Eric Barhorst was recently notified by the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association (OFCA) of his successful completion of the organization’s uniform credentialing program.
Barhorst began his career with the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services in June of 1999. He was promoted to lieutenant on Oct. 25, 2009, and then to assistant fire chief on June 22, 2015.
“Assistant Chief Barhorst is a proven leader with an exemplary history of service to the city of Sidney and surrounding areas, including his hometown of Fort Loramie, Ohio where his father served as a long-time fire chief. Completion of this training ensures that Assistant Chief Barhorst is better prepared to serve the department, the community as well as other professional organizations,” City Manager Andrew Bowsher said. “This is a tremendous achievement!”

The goal of the OFCA Credentialing Program is to ensure a strong degree of accountability. The program sets forth the goals needed for chief fire officers to establish a higher degree of professionalism so that fire chiefs may be better prepared to serve their department, their community, and other organizations. The goal is to promote the professional development of the chief fire officer in Ohio and to assist these chiefs in their daily operations, management, and leadership.
