Anna students compete in competitions

ANNA — Students at Anna High School have competed in several science contests recently.

Several students participated in the local American Chemical Society Exam which is the qualifying test for a spot on the 2021 National Chemistry Olympiad Team. Second year participant was Alexis Shannon. The first year participants were Bryce Cobb, Isaac Edelmann, Josie Gehret, Kailyn Rickert, Lauren Thornhill, Eli Wilson, Claire Aikin, Breelyn Berner, Ashley Bertke, Hope Bixler, Kayli Brewer, Carissa Edwards, Shelby Ham, Kelli Peeples, Breeann Reaman, Laney Reiss, Lenna Rowland, Lauryn Wolters, Bethan Althauser, Chloe Baughman, Kennedy Brewer, Allison Counts, Eli Egbert, Collin Frilling, Emmaly Goguen, Carter Gordon, Destiny Jones, Kaylie Kipp, Megan Marlow, Maddie Martin, Gabrielle Myers, Madison Prenger and Molly Rioch.

Carter Gordan, Josie Gehret, Lauren Thornhill and Maddie Martin were members of the 2021 AHS Envirothon Team. Envirothon is an annual, environmentally themed academic competition with 5 core subject tests – aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, and wildlife, along with a fifth annually-changing subtopic which focuses on relevant environmental issues. The competition was held on March 22 this year.

The Anna High School Science Olympiad Team competed in the regional event on March 13. Team members include seniors TJ Hamblin, Alexis Shannon, Caden Cruset; juniors Josie Gehret, Lauren Thornhill, Merritt Alspaugh, Megan Marlow and sophomores Meredith Klein and Brayden Kauffmann. Science Teacher Vicki Quinter is the coach for all of these science events.
