PIQUA — The Upper Valley Career Center Board of Education approved several donations during its Monday, April 25, meeting

Donations accepted were seven sets of ratcheting wrenches, miscellaneous hand tools, and two tool boxes donated by John Travis Shurts to be used by the Automotive Technologies SkillsUSA program as prizes for students; a 2006 Chrysler 300C donated by Kyle Thoreen, to be used by the Automotive Technologies SkillsUSA program; $600 donation by Slagle Mechanical to be used to buy tools for students in the HVAC/R Technologies program; $600 donation by MSD Mechanical Systems of Dayton, to be used to buy tools for students in the HVAC/R Technologies program; $600 donation by Lee Co. Solutions to be used to buy tools for students in the HVAC/R Technologies program; $600 donation by Burns Heating and Cooling to be used to buy tools for students in the HVAC/R Technologies program; and $300 donation by Area Energy and Electric to be used to buy tools for students in the HVAC/R Technologies program.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the 2022-23 truancy liaison service agreement with the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center.

• Approved revisions to and the additions of the Board Policies and Regulations.

• Approved SkillsUSA Advisers Jeff Bertke and Sara Plozay, as well as an additional staff member (to be named at a later date), to attend the 2022 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 17-24, 2022. The combined cost to the District for registration, travel, meals, and lodging will not exceed $3,500 per staff member.

• Approved a number of students (to be determined after the SkillsUSA State Convention held on May 3-4, 2022), to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 17-24, 2022. The combined cost to the district for registration and lodging will not exceed $2,500 per student.

• Approved Roger Voisard, Instructional supervisor, to attend the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 21-24, 2022. The combined cost to the District for Voisard’s registration, travel, meals, and lodging will not exceed $2,400.00.

• Approved Gwen Rose and Marie Shaneyfelt (Culinary Arts instructors/ProStart advisers), an additional staff member, and five students to participate in the National ProStart Invitational in Washington D.C., May 5-9, 2022. The cost to the district for the employees and students for registration, travel, lodging, meals, and miscellaneous expenses will not exceed $10,000. The district will be reimbursed $4,000 back after the event from ProStart.

• Approved Family and Consumer Science Instructors/FCCLA Advisers Vicki Kipker (Jackson Center satellite), Tara Berning (Fairlawn satellite), and Tricia Alexander (Fort Loramie satellite) to attend the National FCCLA Leadership Meeting in San Diego, California, from June 29-July 5, 2022. Plans are to bring no more than 26 students (Jackson Center – 12, Fairlawn – eight, Fort Lorame – six). The cost for registration, travel, meals, lodging and tours will not exceed $6834 for the instructors. The total cost to support (26) national student qualifiers will not exceed $5200.

• Approved Roger Voisard (Instructional supervisor), Tony Trapp (Apprenticeship Coordinator), and Brent Snell ( Manufacturing & Machining instructor), to attend the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, Illinois, from Sept. 14-16, 2022. The cost of this trip will not exceed $3,000. The expenses will be split, with 40% covered by the Haas Foundation Grant and 60% covered by the district.

• Approved UVCC on-campus FCCLA advisers/chaperones and any qualifying students to attend the National FCCLA Convention in San Diego, California, from June 28 to July 4, 2022.

• Approved new textbooks for the 2022-23 school year:

• Approved the addition of June 19 (Juneteenth National Independence Day) as an observed Federal Holiday for 11 and 12 month employees (260 and 240 day contracts) amending all previously and currently approved salary schedules, beginning June 19, 2022.

• Approved a commendation for service award for board members and staff members who have 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 or five years of service with the district.

• Approved certificated contracts for Jackie Doseck, $53,307, Family and Consumer Science Instructor – Troy Junior High Satellite; Lydda Mansfield, $67,412, Career Tech Instructor – Pre-Engineering Technologies – Troy High School; Kristen Rappold, $44,248, Career Tech Instructor – Ag. Science – Houston High School satellite.

• Approved classified employment for Noah Roswell, $45,918, computer technician.

• Approved classified substitutes on an “as needed” basis: Cindy Replogle, $11.85 per hour, substitute secretary/substitute aide

• Approved high school certificated supplemental contracts – extended non-contract hours for Jackie Doseck, 40 hours from May 1 to Aug. 14, 2022, Family and Consumer Science Instructor – Troy Junior High Satellite program set-up; Lydda Mansfield, 40 hours from May 1 to Aug. 14, Career Tech Instructor – Pre-Engineering Technologies – Troy High School Satellite program set-up; and Kristen Rappold, 40 hours from May 1 to Aug. 14, Career Tech Instructor – Ag. Science – Houston High School Satellite for program set-up.

• Approved Adult Education intermittent/hourly employment for Emily Curnutte, $22 per hour, Adult Aspire Instructor; Amber Goffena, $25 per hour, Adult Nursing Instructor; Amber Goffena, $30 per hour, Adult Clinical Nursing Instructor.

• Accepted the resingstion of Darla Herron, assistant cashier.

• Approved a contract modification for Greg Anderson, Paraprofessional – Auto Collision, for unpaid partial leave of absence from April, 19, 2022, through May 27, 2022. Anderson will work from 7:45 to 11:45 a.m. instead of 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., due to responsibilities on his family farm.
