New sound system OK’d for football stadium

SIDNEY — Fans attending Sidney High School’s home football games this fall will be hearing something new.

During Monday night’s Sidney City Schools Board of Education meeting, the board approve the purchase of a new sound system at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

Low Voltage Solutions received two contracts for the project. The first is for the purchase and installation of the sound system and will cost $14,400.49. The second is for the purchase and installation of five new speakers for the concession stand areas at a cost of $4,368.

Funds for the project will provided from an improvement fund specifically for the football stadium.

The new sound system includes a mixer which will provide better sound quality for events held at the stadium, including graduation and concerts, such as the July 4 Sidney Civic Band concert.

The speakers at the concession stand areas will allow fans who are getting food to hear what’s going on during the game. In the past, there have been no speakers so fans were unaware of what was transpiring on the field.

In other business, the board:

• approved the transfer of $350,00 from the general fund to the permanent improvement fund; $100,000 from the general fund to the terminations benefits fund for expected retirements during the year; $65,000 from the general fund to the capital projects fund for turf and track replacement; and $20,000 from the general fund to the EMIS fund. Treasurer Mike Watkins said the transfer to the permanent improvement fund must be made since the district doesn’t have any permanent improvement tax levy monies.

• Approved a motion to correct the amount of the cost to upgrade the district’s network infrastructure to be $430,263.42 and not $403,263.42.

• Approved a contract with PERRYproTECH for the rental of copier equipment for five years beginning July 2015 at a cost of $6,683 per month. This is a savings of $44,600 annually from the current contract. The contract is for 22 copiers across the district.

• Entered into a service exchange agreement with American Fidelity Assurance Company for Section 125 administrative services effective Oct. 1, 2015.

• Approved an agreement with the Ohio School Plan administered by Hylant Administrative Services LCC for the district’s property fleet and liability insurance from July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2016 at a cost of $94,600. This is a savings of $53,315 from the prior year’s coverage. Bids were received from three companies.

• Approved a motion declaring transportation to be impractical for one student to Troy Christian High School.

• Approved a motion to accept the low bids through the Educational Purchasing Cooperative and approve contracts for bakery products to Nickels Bakery; dairy products to Reiter Dairy; and food products to Gordon Food Service.

• Approved general school fees for the 2015-16 school year. Fees for kindergarten through eighth-grade is $35. Fees for grades 9-12 depends on the classes the students are enrolled in.

• Approved an agreement for purchased services for reserve officers as school security officers for the district. Security officers will be Douglas Schlagetter, Rodney Austin, Chuck Shepherd, Anthony Cipollone, Britton Morris, Rick Cron and Mike Henry. Substitutes will be David Spicer, Lynn Marsee, Brad Boyd, Joel March, John Pence, Lew Warbington, Chris VanMeter, Matt Luthman, Jeanne Swob, Brad Henman, Brian Boyd, Jacob Little, David Short and Wilbur Benson. School event security people include Rod Austin, Wilbur Benson, Rick Cron, Mark Henman, Mike Henry, Doug Schlagetter, Chuck Shepherd, Lynn Marsee, John Pence, David Spicer and Brian Strunk.

• Approved a resolution from the Upper Valley Career Center to include representatives from the Midwest Rgional ESC, formerly Shelby County ESC.

• Appointed Bill Ankney as the school board representative and Paul Heins as the alternate to the Ohio School Boards Association convention in November 2015.

• Approved a date change for the August board meeting from Aug. 17 to Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m.

• Went into executive session to discuss the compensation of an employee of the school district. No action was taken.
