GREENVILLE — A quick start helped Sidney’s boys basketball team earn its third win of the season over Greenville on Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets built a 17-5 lead by the end of the first quarter, then outscored the Green Wave 19-12 in the second to take a 36-17 halftime lead. Sidney finished off the win with a 12-0 scoring edge in the third quarter.

Avante Martin led Sidney (8-6) with 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Cedric Johnson scored 11 points and Ryan Schloss added eight points off the bench.

Sidney shot 17 for 40 (42.5 percent) from the floor and 23 for 28 (82.1 percent) from the free-throw line. The squad had a 27-23 rebounding edge. Greenville shot 10 for 45 (22.2 percent) from the floor.

• Girls basketball

Springfield Catholic Central 57, Lehman Catholic 40

The Cavaliers lost a nonconference game on Wednesday in Springfield.

Lehman built a 12-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and outscored the Fighting Irish 12-11 in the second to take a 24-20 halftime lead. Catholic Central stormed back with a 17-7 edge in the third and 20-9 edge in the fourth.

Anna Cianciolo led Lehman (7-11) with 22 points and had six rebounds. Mara O’Leary scored eight points and had eight rebounds.

Lehman shot 16 for 50 (32 percent) from the floor and 4 for 5 from the free-throw line. Catholic Central shot 17 for 46 (37 percent) from the floor and 17 for 22 (77.3 percent) from the free-throw line. Central had a 28-23 rebounding edge.

THURSDAY RESULTS

• Girls basketball

Russia 34, Botkins 32

The Raiders pulled ahead in the second half to earn a Shelby County Athletic League victory on Thursday in Russia.

The squads were tied 5-5 at the end of the first quarter and 18-18 at halftime. The Raiders had an 8-7 scoring edge in each the third and fourth quarters to earn the win.

Sophie Francis led Russia (12-9, 7-5) with eight points. Seven other players scored for the Raiders, with none scoring more than five points.

Carmen Heuker scored 15 points for Botkins (14-6, 7-5) while Makenna Maurer scored nine.

The win put Russia in a tie with Botkins for third place in the SCAL.

Anna 46, Jackson Center 27

Anna earned a big SCAL victory on Thursday in Jackson Center.

The Rockets built an 8-3 lead by the end of the first quarter and used an 18-13 scoring advantage in the second to take a 26-16 halftime lead. They finished with an 11-7 advantage in the third and 9-4 advantage in the fourth.

Ella Doseck led Anna (13-7, 10-2) with 16 points and six rebounds while Kayli Brewer scored 12 points.

Ashley Mullenhour led Jackson Center (2-16, 0-11) with 13 points.

Anna shot 16 for 45 (36 percent) from the floor while Jackson Center shot 9 for 38 (24 percent). The Tigers had a 23-21 rebounding edge.

The Rockets finished second in SCAL play behind Fort Loramie.

Fort Loramie 80, Fairlawn 12

The Redskins earned a big SCAL win on Thursday at Fairlawn.

Fort Loramie took a 23-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and outscored the Jets 19-2 in the second to increase their advantage to 42-10. The Redskins outscored the Jets 21-2 in the third and 17-7 in the fourth.

Kenzie Hoelscher led Fort Loramie (19-1, 12-0) with 18 points while Dana Rose scored 15 and Corynn Heitkamp added nine.

Lonna Heath led Fairlawn (5-11, 1-10) with seven points.

It’s the third consecutive season Fort Loramie finished undefeated in SCAL play.

Minster 58, Fort Recovery 27

The Wildcats clinched the outright Midwest Athletic Conference title with a big win on Thursday in Minster.

Minster led 24-4 by the end of the first quarter. The Wildcats finished with an 11-10 scoring edge in the second, 13-7 advantage in the third and 10-6 advantage in the fourth.

Ivy Wolf led Minster (17-1, 8-0 MAC) with 20 points while Ella Mescher scored 12 and Janae Hoying scored 11.

Marion Local 55, New Bremen 44

The Cardinals lost a MAC game on Thursday in Maria Stein.

The Flyers took a 13-11 lead by the end of the first quarter and used a 15-9 scoring edge in the second to take a 28-20 halftime lead. New Bremen had a 12-10 advantage in the third but was outscored 17-12 in the fourth.

Kaylee Freund led the Cardinals (9-7, 5-3) with 13 points while Madison Cordonnier scored 12 points and had eight rebounds.

New Bremen shot 15 for 41 (37 percent) from the floor and was outrebounded 34-23.

Delphos St. John’s 52, Versailles 32

The Tigers lost a MAC game on Thursday in Versailles.

St. John’s took a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and led 26-11 at halftime and 40-22 at the end of the third quarter.

Abby Stammen led Versailles (6-13, 2-7) with eight points.
