Sidney closed out the season by reclaiming the Little Brown Jug from Greenville Friday night at Sidney Memorial Stadium.

The 42-27 win gave the Jackets a final record of 4-6. Greenville winds up 3-7.

Sidney took the opening drive and drove for a score, with the highlight being a 30-yard run by Isaiah Bowser. Sidney converted a fourth-and-one, and got a three-yard run from Bowser for a score with 8:11 left in the opening quarter.

Bowser set yet another school record with the touchdown. It gave him 170 points on the season, and that broke the school record of 166 set by John Wiggins back in 1968.

Greenville drove down for a score but missed the extra point, and the opening quarter ended 7-6.

In the second quarter, Sidney’s Allec Gordon picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown with 9:29 remaining, but Greenville responded with a touchdown drive and a successful two-point conversion to make it 14-14 with eight minutes left in the period.

The Sidney offense moved again, however, and drove to the go-ahead score with 2:18 remaining in the first half. Bowser went in from 13 yards out, with the key play on the drive being a 22-yard pass from Jack Feazel to Conor Beer.

The second half did not start out well for the Jackets, who were pinned deep in their own territory following a Greenville punt. On fourth down, Greenville partially blocked Sidney’s punt and took over at the nine, then scored two plays later to make it 21-21 with 7:32 left in the third quarter.

But for the second time in the game, Greenville tried an onside kick, which Sidney recovered. A 15-yard penalty was tacked on, setting Sidney up in Greenville’s end of the field. It took just three runs by Bowser for the Jackets to find the endzone again on the last one, and it made the score 28-21.

Greenville appeared headed for a tying score again, but Sidney recovered a fumble with 1:50 left in the third quarter on its own 29.

Midway through the quarter, Bowser broke off a 54-yard run down to the nine, but the Jackets turned it over on downs.

But Gordon came up with his second interception, giving Sidney the ball on the Green Wave 35. Bowser ran 28 yards to the 7-yard line, and scored later from the five to make it 35-21 with 5:35 left to play.

Thirteen seconds later, Sidney had the ball back on a Josiah Hudgins interception. But they ultimately turned it over on downs with just over two minutes remaining. Greenville scored with just 1:44 left but the PAT was no good, leaving the score 35-27.

Greenville’s onside kick traveled just a short distance, but the Jackets made that a moot point by fumbling the ball away on the next play, setting Greenville up at its own 33 with 1:35 left.

But with just under a minute remaining, Dillion King came up with Sidney’s fourth interception and second “pick six” of the night, making it 42-27.

Sidney added a fifth interception with :08 left.
