SIDNEY — The Shelby County Board of Elections reported Friday morning voters may have broken early voting records.

So far they have reached over the 5,000 mark of early ballots cast in Shelby County.

“I think for such a small community it is great to see such a large turnout,” Board of Elections Member Chuck Craynon said.

In the 2012 presidential election only 7,012 ballots were cast total in Shelby County, according to the board of elections. It’s hard to determine exactly how many ballots they had at this point in 2012, the board said, but only 2,013 more people would need to vote on election day this year to beat 2012 numbers.

The Shelby County Board of Elections will be open this weekend and next to allow voters to stop in and vote early. Their weekend hours are Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. The weekday hours next week are Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The board of elections office is located at 230 E. Court St. in Sidney. They can be reached by phone at 937-498-7207.

On election day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, the polls all over the county will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
