SIDNEY — Seven Fairlawn Local Schools students recently participated in the State Children’s Honor Choir at Otterbein University.

Dr. Christine Jordonoff, renowned choral conductor, composer and professor emeritus at Duquesne University led the 150-member ensemble.

Catherine Cardo, daughter of Jenny and Frank Cardo; Zoey Douglas, daughter of Danelle and Brian Douglas; Kylee Ginter, daughter of

Shelly and Gary Ginter; Alex Henman, daughter of Julie and Mike Henman; Mark Moloney, son of Lisa and Mark Moloney; Darcy Maxson, daughter of Liz and Mike; and Zachary Orsborne, son of Alysha and Neil Orsborne participated in a three-day camp, where they rehearsed for a total of 10 hours. They stayed in the dorms and had the opportunity to meet singers their age (9-13) from around the entire state. Students were nominated by their director and accepted based on that recommendation and an application listing their vocal achievements in the Fairlawn Youth Choir and Fairlawn Sixth-Grade Choir. The students also attended two pre-event rehearsals at Bowling Green State University and Capital University in preparation for the Honor Choir.

In the audience of the final concert sat a world class composer and vocalist, Simon Carrington, founding member of the world-famous King’s Singers of England. He gave glowing reviews of the students and their dedication to music. Carrington was the headliner clinician at the Ohio Choral Directors Assocation Summer Conference, held at the same time as the choir camp.

“It was a phenomenal experience,” said Mark Moloney

“This experience was really great because I enjoyed learning so many new songs,” said Darcy Maxson.

“The whole choir experience itself was amazing,” said Zachary Orsborne.
