SIDNEY — Thousands of Cavaliers came home for the 2015 Lehman Catholic High School Homecoming, Under the Lights, this past weekend. The four-day celebration kicked off with a traditional bonfire and pep rally held on Thursday evening, Oct. 8. Legendary coach, Chuck Asher, who coached the LCHS football from 1991-2000 returned and reminded the Cavalier family to “seize the day.” Cheerleaders and the LCHS Marching Band led the past, present and future Cavaliers in Cavalier spirit.

On Friday, Oct. 9, the Lehman campus hosted its first homecoming football game under the lights. Cavaliers of all generations returned home to the Lehman Catholic High School to celebrate 45 years of Catholic education. Recognition of the 1970 first football team and four Final Four Teams (1993, 2001, 2008, 2010) was given by coach, Richard Roll at half-time. Joining the group was the first-ever homecoming queen Pamela Peltier Johnston, (’71) and first-ever homecoming king, Matt Graver, (’99). In addition, the alumni coordinated two band performances with current students and the alumnae cheerleaders joined current cheerleaders on the field. The football team secured a victory against Hardin Northern 49-13.

Saturday, Oct. 10, was filled with athletic events and culminated with the traditional high school homecoming dance for the students. A new venue was a celebration for alumni, parents and friends of Lehman at the Shelby Oaks Golf Club on Saturday evening. Sunday was the final day of the Under the Lights weekend with the return of Father Earl Fernandes celebrating Mass with the Lehman family and a special recognition of former tennis coach, Dave McBride, at the tennis courts. The school was open for tours.

At the center of the event was a cross painted on the field. Missy Bennett, executive director, said, “The cross is at the core of the Lehman community. Our current students embrace our faith visually by including the cross on their athletic uniforms and spirit wear. The cross is the difference in our Catholic education and Christian principles. The painting of the cross on the football field was most appropriate as the cross is the true representation of Lehman and presence of Christ in our community.”

A year ago, a committee formed to bring homecoming home to Lehman in 2015. Bill Bosway, current Lehman parent of two students, served as chair of the committee. The Lehman community rallied behind the committee to bring in the temporary lights, prepare the field, scoreboard, stadium bleachers and tents for the event. As promised the committee brought the event to Lehman as a gift, so that the community could embrace their past, present and future through their alumni, current students and future cavaliers.
