Lady Trojans fall out of sectional

TROY — The Botkins Lady Trojans gave No. 2-seeded Southeastern a good test before seeing its volleyball season come to an end Wednesday in the Division 4 Sectional semifinals at Troy by a 3-0 final.

The scores were 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, and the setback ended the Lady Trojans’ season at 5-18.

“We did a good job in the first game and we were right there with them,” said Botkins coach Bryan Trego. “We didn’t play well in the second game, and we got pretty far behind in the third game before coming back.”

Sami Vehorn and Sarah Bergman had six kills apiece for the Lady Trojans. Blake Maurer finished with 15 assists and Jenna Pitts had 20 digs.

Southeastern advances on to play either Fairlawn or Mechanicsburg in the sectional finals Saturday.

Anna in finals

BROOKVILLE — Top-seeded Anna rolled into the Division 3 Sectional finals at Brookville with a 3-0 win over Indian Lake Tuesday night in semifinal play.

The Lady Rockets, now 19-5, will play Northeastern on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Brookville for the right to advance to the district championship Oct. 31 at Tipp City. Northeastern is the No. 11 seed and had beaten two higher seeds so far in No. 8 West Milton and N0. 10 Preble Shawnee.

For Anna, Krista Gehret pounded down 15 kills, Kennedey Glover added 10 and Sarah Bettinger finished with seven.

Elizabeth Landis handed out 40 assists, had two aces and also two solo blocks, and Avery Bensman led the defense with 17 digs. Mackenzie Wells added 10.

Houston advances

TROY — Houston advanced to the sectional finals with a 26-24, 25-22, 25-22 win over County rival Russia in semifinal action in Division 4 Tuesday at Troy.

The Lady Wildcats are now 10-13 and get top-seeded Jackson Center on Saturday at 4 p.m., with the winner advancing to the district, also at Troy, Oct. 31.

For Houston, Jenna Green and Jenna Winner had six kills and two aces apiece, Green also had four blocks, and Jenna Mounts added four kills.

For Russia, highlighting the contest was Cassie Pleiman, who had 17 digs to bring her season total to 446, a new school record.

Cameo Wilson led in kills with eight and Katie Swartz had 11 assists. Lexi Monnin had two aces and Laurissa Poling two solo blocks.
