Sidney residents urged to complete community survey

SIDNEY — Sidney officials, with assistance from the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, have started the process of updating the city’s comprehensive plan. Sidney’s last comprehensive plan, titled “Imagine Sidney 2025,” was completed in 2009.

Beginning on Nov. 23, residents will be able to participate in an online survey. A link to the 18-question survey can be found by selecting the “Community Survey” link on the city website (www.sidneyoh.com). The survey asks residents, business owners and other community stakeholders questions relative to growth, revitalization and livelihood of the city. Participants will also be able to rate Sidney’s various services and qualities. The results of the survey will be valuable in helping prioritize the plan’s recommendations, Community Services Director Barbara Dulworth said.

In addition to the survey, community members will be able to participate in public forums to be held next year. Focus group sessions will also be held in July that will be framed around topics like downtown revitalization, infrastructure, economic growth, and “quality of life.” Reveille Ltd., a Bowling Green, Ohio-based planning and economic development firm, was retained to assist with analyzing the collected data and guide the committee in updating the plan.

The results of the community survey and other important information regarding the planning process will be posted and updated on the city’s website.

The purpose of the update is to ensure the plan reflects appropriate priorities and strategies that are consistent with best practices and available resources. The plan will help guide community officials for the next five or more years in areas such as neighborhoods, land use and development, parks and recreation, infrastructure, community services and facilities, and transportation.

Printed copies of the survey can also be attained at Sidney’s City Hall, 201 W. Poplar St.
