Ms. Logan Morris’ 6th grade technology classes at Sidney Middle School recently took part in the Hour of Code, a worldwide event that encourages people of all ages to participate in Code activities. Her students spent two days learning the basics of coding using the block method, which is the same idea as typing codes but easier to understand. When they finished their course they received a certificate for their participation. Many courses featured their favorite characters, including Frozen, Minecraft and Star Wars. The kids loved it and were excited to do more. This is an important step to introduce computer science and have them using their brains. Morris’ classes used Code.org; anyone can sign up on the site to try coding at home.
