BOTKINS — The Botkins Board of Education met Wednesday night and selected Jack Koenig to be it’s president once again.

The board then voted for Neil Boerger to be the vice president. They voted to keep the compensation for board members to be $40 per meeting and set the meetings for every second Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The oath of office was administered to new Board Member Anita Uetrecht and re-elected member Mark Goubeaux.

They made committee assignments and chose Goubeaux to be treasurer pro-tem.

The board entered into a discussion about snow management and how they are doing at keeping the snow off the parking lots and ice off the sidewalks. Superintendent Connie Schneider told the board they have been using grit to keep the ice off the walkways, because they were told salt is not good for the kind of pavement they have. The only downside is the kids are tracking in more of a mess, she said. So they have laid down extra mats near the entry ways.

In addition they talked about purchasing a pick-up truck that will serve several purposes including snow removal from the parking lot. The board decided they needed more information before committing to a purchase, right after purchasing a bus two months ago.

In a quest for more lighting in the bus/athletic complex parking lot, the board has narrowed down their opinions, options, needs and wants. They want three poles on the north end of the parking lot and one pole by the gas pump. In addition, they would like the poles to be metal and contain LED lights.

In an ever improving attitude, the board continued discussion about how to add permanent bleachers and parking to the soccer field/track. The board looked at aerial maps of the Botkins Park trying to get an idea of how they are going to go about getting this done. They have created a small committee to look into raising funds for this project.

In addition at the meeting, the board:

• Approved second semester bus routes.

• Approved expenses for the driver’s education class.

• Approved indoor track as an activity.

• Dealt with Botkins Foundation Scholarship adjustments; including changing of language.

• Accepted donations in the amount of $500 and $1,000.
