SIDNEY — Twelve Fairlawn elementary choir students were selected to sing with the Columbus Children’s Honor Choir on Feb. 6.
The choirs were conducted under the direction of famed composer Dr. Cynthia Gray and Columbus Children’s Choir Director Sarah Santilli. Students were selected based on a written letter of recommendation from their school director Sonya Phillips and criteria including tone, range, intonation, rhythmic maturity, and the ability to interpret various styles of music appropriately. These students learned four pieces of music in only eight hours followed with a performance with the talented New World Singers of the Columbus area.
Third-graders selected were Haley Cox, daughter of Aaron and Mindy Cox, Loralei Chambers, daughter of Loraine Rose, and Martha Chrisman, daughter of Joe and Heather Chrisman.
Fourth-graders selected were Olivia Barga, daughter of Brad and Jennifer Barga, Julia Huelskamp, daughter of Ted and Abbey Huelskamp, and Liliana Phillips, daughter of Keith and Sonya Phillips.
Fifth-graders chosen were Darcy Maxson, daughter of Mike and Liz Maxson, Samantha Quinlisk, daughter of John and Laura Quinlisk, and Kylee Wheeler, daughter of Ryan and Patty Wheeler.
Sixth-grader Brynn Thomas, daughter of Mike and Rachel Lavins and Blake Thomas, was also chosen for the choir.
Seventh-graders selected were Lola Chambers, daughter of Loraine Rose, and Zoey Douglas, daughter of Brian and Danelle Douglas.
