Lehman teacher named top conservation educator

COLUMBUS — During the Ohio Federation of Soil and Water Conservation Districts’ (OFSWCD) 73rd Annual Conservation Partnership Conference, “Champions of Conservation,” sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America, Tracy Hall of Lehman Catholic High School was recognized as the “Conservation Education Teacher of the Year” in the secondary category.

As shared in the program, “Ms. Hall incorporates watershed education into her curriculum and encoursges her high school students to explore the possibilities of conservation related science fair projects. Many of her students have progressed on to the district and state science fairs with these projects.”

Hall has been coaching the Lehman Envirothon teams for the past 12 years and is a firm believer in providing hands on experiences to help the Lehman teams prepare the the competition. Hall has also been a dedicated volunteer for the Shelby Soil and Water Conservation District’s summer Conservation Day Camp for the past 10 years.

“Tracy is an amazing example for our students. She wants her students to learn and be involved in making a difference,” Shelby SWCD Education Coordinator Lynda Adams said.

This year’s OFSWCD “Legends and Legacies” Award Luncheon, sponsored by the Ohio Soybean Council, recognized a number of individuals for outstanding conservation efforts for 2015, including SWCD supervisors, SWCD staff, and landowners. The event’s attendance included over 450 conservation leaders representing the local, state and federal government, farmers, business owners and many more. The annual meeting is conducted yearly in downtown Columbus and is focused on conservation training, development, education and outreach.
