Botkins FFA places high in recent competitions

BOTKINS — On Saturday March 19, the Botkins FFA had three teams compete in the Mercer County Invitational.

The Equine Judging team placed second out of 32 teams. Scoring for the team was Madeline Okuley, who placed first out of 100 individuals, Madi Steinke, who placed second overall, and Kayla Kohler placed 41st.

The General Livestock Judging team placed third out of 41 teams. Scoring for the team was Micah Smoch who placed ninth out of 230 individuals, Grace Homan placed 15th, Bryce Metz placed 18th and Evan Aufderhaar placed 25th.

The Dairy Judging team also competed and placed seventh out of 31 teams. Scoring for the team was Kyle Maurer 13th out of 115 individuals, Josh Brown 36th, Janell Greve placed 56th and Keaton Topp placed 61st.

The Botkins FFA Livestock Judging Team competed at the Ohio State ATI competition in Wooster, Ohio, also recently. The contest consisted of judging various types of animals based on value and quality and answering questions about them. The team was divided into four separate teams, and the best scoring was fourth place. In that team was Micah Smock who placed third, Josh Miller who placed 14th, and Nolan Greve who placed 42nd.

The Botkins FFA judging teams competed in the Wilmington Judging Contest on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. There were three teams competing and the contest consisted of written tests and judging various types of animals based on value and quality. The General Livestock Team placed fourth among about 68 schools. Scoring for the team was Micah Smock who placed 15th out of 773 individuals, Tanner Russel who placed 26th, and Nolan Greve who placed 49th. The Equine Team placed eighth among about 63 schools. Scoring was Madeline Okuley who placed seventh out of 228 individuals, Payton Amstutz who placed 39th, and Kya Skinner who placed 113th. The Dairy Cattle Team placed 13th among 32 schools. Scoring was Keaton Topp who placed 31st out of 120 individuals, Kyle Maurer who placed 34th, and Janell Greve who placed 75th.

The Botkins FFA judging teams competed in the Marysville Judging Contest on Saturday, March 5, 2016. There were 2 teams competing and the contest consisted of written tests and judging various types of animals based on value and quality. The General Livestock Team placed third among 119 schools. Scoring for the team was Micah Smock who placed seventh out of 660 individuals, Nolan Greve who placed 18th, and Evan Aufderhaar who placed 21st. The Equine Team placed ninth among 91 schools. Scoring was Madeline Okuley who placed second out of 258 individuals, Madi Steinke who placed 15th, and Kayla Kohler who placed 174th.

The Botkins FFA judging teams competed in the Miami Trace Judging Contest on Saturday, March 12, 2016. There were three teams competing and the contest consisted of written tests and judging various types of animals based on value and quality. The General Livestock Team placed 10th among 80 schools. Scoring for the team was Micah Smock who placed sixth out of 462 individuals, Tanner Russel who placed 37th, and Josh Miller who placed 71st. The Equine Team placed sixth among 62 schools. Scoring was Madeline Okuley who placed first out of 176 individuals, Madi Steinke who placed 40th, and Baylee Johnson who placed 94th. The Dairy Cattle Team placed 23rd among 29 schools. Scoring was Kyle Maurer who placed 24th out of 100 individuals.
