Su Casa honors leaders

CINCINNATI – Su Casa Hispanic Center will recognize community leaders at its 17th Annual Awards Dinner and Silent Auction at 6 p.m. on April 20, at Xavier University’s Cintas Center. The Awards Dinner and Silent Auction are open to the public. Donations are $90 per person or $850 for a table of 10. RSVP to www.ccswoh.org/sucasa/AwardDinner by April 1.

The annual dinner provides an opportunity for the non-profit agency to express its gratitude to those who actively support its mission in enabling the Hispanic/Latino community to achieve self-sufficiency and to lead healthy, fulfilled lives.

“These leaders are community role models for all by setting such a great example of service,” said Giovanna Alvarez, director of Su Casa Hispanic Center. Honorees are:

• ProKids for Organization of the Year: This award is given to a Corporation or Organization that has provided support to the Center in accomplishing its mission and supports the well-being of the Hispanic/Latino Community in the Greater Cincinnati area.

• Jorge Martinez for Volunteer of the Year: This award is given to an active Su Casa volunteer that has demonstrated excellence and outstanding commitment to the Center and that has volunteered with Su Casa for a period of at least 2 years.

• Alfonso Cornejo for Lifetime Achievement: This award recognizes a community leader that, through the years has demonstrated an exemplary life through his/her work and volunteer activities.

• Archdiocese of Cincinnati’s Immigration Task Force for the Mother Cabrini Award: The youngest of 13 children, Frances Cabrini was canonized a saint in 1946 by Pope Pius XII in recognition of her holiness and service to mankind. She was named Patroness of Immigrants in 1950.

Special awards will be presented this year to José Nine for “Padrino of the Unaccompanied Minors” and Tatiana Bohec for “Adopt a Family – Christmas Angel.”

Su Casa has been providing social, educational, language, employment and health care referral services to the Hispanic/Latino community in Greater Cincinnati since 1997. It is a program of Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio, a United Way Partner Agency and accredited by the Council on Accreditation.
