SIDNEY — Krista Smith and Melissa Nichols, both of Riverside Developmental Disabilities of Troy, addressed the Kiwanis Club of Sidney during its March 6 meeting.

The women presented a slide show about their effort to start an Aktion Club in Miami County. Aktion Clubs are community service clubs for adults with developmental disabilities and are sponsored by Kiwanis. An open house was held in January for prospective Aktion Club members.

Eleven people with their providers attended, along with five Kiwanis members. For their first community service project, they created 82 Valentine’s Day cards for residents of the Covington Care Center.

The group in getting ready to have its Charter Night in May and now has 22 members. They held open nominations for club officers and each nominee was given the opportunity to speak. The group continues to learn about serving the public.
