PIQUA — A head-on crash between a motorcycle and a SUV on Saturday saw the motorcycle driver and his passenger transported aboard CareFlight for serious injuries.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of County Road 25A and Troy-Sidney Road, just north of Paris Court Trailer Park.

According to witnesses and early reports, the motorcyclist and his passenger were northbound on County Road 25A when they attempted to turn left onto Troy-Sidney Road, striking a southbound SUV head-on.

The impact threw one of the cyclists into the windshield of the SUV and drove the motorcycle backward approximately 15 yards.

Both the driver of the motorcycle, Tyler Jackson, 18, and his passenger, Kelly Ingram, 19, both of Vandalia, suffered extensive injuries. It was reported that neither was wearing a helmet.

CareFlight was called to transport both. The driver of the SUV, Kati Starnes, 30, of Sidney, was shaken but uninjured.

A witness who lives in nearby Paris Court Trailer Court told the Piqua Daily Call that seconds before he heard the impact, the motorcycle was “really getting on it” as it allegedly sped up.

Firefighters and paramedics from Piqua and firefighters from Fletcher responded to the scene to care for injured and set up a landing zone for CareFlight.

County Road 25A was closed for over an hour while the crash was investigated and cleaned up.

The crash is being investigated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Another crash involving a motorcycle and a SUV occurred on Sunday at County Road 25A and I-75 near the Farrington interchange.

Troopers said that two victims were transported from that crash.

Ehlers from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol cautions that drivers are “so distracted” these days and should be “very very careful” while behind the wheel or on a motorcycle.

“Motorists need to watch out for yourself,” said Ehlers. “And also watch others, too.”
