BOTKINS — The Shelby County Democrat Jefferson Jackson Dinner will be Wednesday, April 27, in the Palazzo in Botkins.

A cash bar will open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. The deadline for ticket reservation is Sunday, April 23. Tickets cost $25 and are available calling Tom Kerrigan II at 726-0625 or by mailing a check payable to Shelby County Democrat Central Committee to Kerrigan at 126 N. Main Ave., Sidney, OH 45365.

The dinner will feature two guest speakers: Janet Garrett, of Oberlin, a candidate running against Jim Jordan for the U.S. House of Representatives, and former Sidney resident Danny O’Connor, of Clintonville, who is a candidate for Franklin County recorder.

Garrett is a native of Troy and is a former Peace Corps volunteer. She taught in public schools in several Ohio school districts before retiring in 2015 and began her political activism by managing a local campaign office for Michael Dukakis during his run for the presidency in 1988. She was a charter member of Jordan Watch, a grass roots effort to oppose what she calls Jordan’s “attacks on civil liberties and women’s rights.”

O’Connor graduated from Lehman Catholic High School, Wright State University and the Syracuse University College of Law. A partner in the law firm of Weis and O’Connor, he specializes in family law. He has served in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and worked in the juvenile division of the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.
