April 25, 1916

Members of the junior class who will have parts in the class play “The Junior” were announced today. They included: James Beaman, Walter Minnich, Royal Messmer, George McKee, Martin McVay, Millard Hussey, Harold Knaurer, Wesley Thompson, Stella Kenny, Dorothy Morrison, Oneta Norcross, and Lucile Henley.

75 Years

April 25, 1941

Two of the numbers sung by the Morris Brown college glee club when it appeared here last evening were dedicated to the parents of James Humphrey, of this city, a member of the musical group.

Hal Purdy, manager of the Sidney Country Club, announced today the official opening of the local course will be held Sunday. A full card of events is being planned.

50 Years

April 25, 1966

Mildred Cothman was winner of the award as top speller in the Holy Angels High School match held Thursday afternoon at the school. Second place went to Peggy Barhorst and third place to David Soder. The match, which included pupils in grades nine through 12 ended in a tie between the two girl contenders, the teachers being forced to use a list of words that had not been seen by any of the contestants when the field was limited to two. There were approximately 30 pupils who vied for the honors.

James Davis, R.R. 5, Sidney, was elected president of the Sidney Jaycees when members named officers for the new year at a dinner meeting Monday evening at Hussey’s in Port Jefferson. Named internal vice president was Warren Barry, while Carl Cartwright was elected external vice president. Ed Wical will serve as secretary, with Marion Zimpher, as treasurer.

25 Years

April 25, 1991

The Rev. Anthony Dattilo, who has been associate pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney for almost five years, will leave in June to become pastor of a church in Dayton. Dattilo said he will become pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, which is located near Children’s Medical Center.
