Staff report

ANNA — Fort Loramie and Anna battled to a stalemate after seven innings, but the Lady Redskins erupted for five runs in the top of the eighth to beat the Lady Rockets 12-8 in County softball at Anna Tuesday night.

Fort Loramie is now 8-7 and Anna 6-7.

Loramie had to scramble to send the game to overtime. Anna trailed 5-3 after four and a half innings, but got four in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 lead.

Loramie tied it in the top of the seventh, however, when Hillary Benanzer dropped a ball just in front of the left fielder with the bases loaded to drive in two runs and tie the game up.

Aleah Frilling came on in relief in the sixth and got through the bottom of the seventh despite the first batter reaching on an error. Then in the top of the eighth, she led off with a solo home run. It was only her second place appearance as a varsity player and her first varsity hit.

Loramie rode that momentum to a five-run inning and Anna answered with only one run in the bottom of the eighth.

The Lady Redskins got three hits apiece from Abby Holthaus and Julie May, and two hits from Kristin Raterman and Kara Magoteaux.

May had two doubles and Ratermann, Benanzer, Holthaus and Jess Boerger all had one double.

For Anna, Olivia Place had three hits with a double, Ashley Dentinger singled and doubled, Chloe Spence doubled and Alexis Phillips had two hits.
