Lehman graduates receive $2 million in scholarships, grants

SIDNEY — The Lehman Catholic class of 2016 has been busy over the last several months applying for scholarships and grants to make their college dreams come true. While it is no secret that college is expensive, there is aid available and sometimes getting it is as simple as taking the extra time to fill out an application.

Lehman Senior Guidance Counselor Barb Saluke has announced the results of the students’ efforts. Of the Lehman class of 2016, 87.5 percent will attend four-year colleges and 12.5 percent will attend two-year colleges. The 40 members of the Lehman graduating class have been awarded $2,272,152 in scholarships and grants over the next four years.

The following is a listing of the class members, their future plans, and scholarships they have received to date.

Malachi Bezy will attend Franciscan University and major in Secondary Math Education. He received the Franciscan University Powell Scholarship, Ruese Insurance Scholarship, and Thomas Given Family Scholarship. Nathan Bosway will attend Miami University and major in Biology. He received the Miami University Scholarship and the Faulkner, Garmhausen, Keister and Shenk Scholarship.

Jerry Curtis will attend Bowling Green State University where he will major in Supply Chain Management. He received the BGSU Freshman Academic Scholarship, American Trim Scholarship, McDonald’s Ray Kroc Award, and a Lundgard Scholarship. Michelle Duritsch will attend Butler University and major in Health Sciences leading to a Physician’s Assistant degree. She received a Butler Academic Scholarship.

Kendal Eck plans to major in Biology at the University of Toledo. She received the UT Honors Award, UT OSFA Departmental Award, and the Celestin Gigandet Scholarship. Claudia Fatone will attend the University of Cincinnati and study Nursing. She received the UC Cincinnatus Century Scholarship, UC Health Path Scholarship, Shelby County Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest Scholarship, and the Sell, Hegeman and Zimmerman, LPC Scholarship.

Sara Fuller will attend Shenandoah University and major in Athletic Training. She received the Shenandoah Academic Scholarship, Sidney VFW Post 4239 Scholarship, Deacon John Holthaus Scholarship, Teen Leadership Corps Scholarship, and Sidney American Legion Post 217 Scholarship. Diana Gibson will major in International Business and Marketing at The Ohio State University. She was named an International Affairs Scholar and received the OSU Fisher College of Business Dean’s Scholarship, OSU President’s Grant, OSU Freshman Foundation Grant, and the Robert and Miriam Hartzell Scholarship.

Olivia Gorman will attend the University of Cincinnati and study Nursing. She received the Piqua Rotary Scholarship, Robert E. Grover Scholarship, Piqua Optimist Chuck Wagner Memorial Scholarship , and a Lundgard Scholarship . Janelle Gravunder plans to study Accounting at Ohio Northern University. She received the ONU General Grant and ONU Dean’s Scholarship.

Alexis Grise will attend the University of Dayton and major in Special Education. She received the UD Father Chaminade Scholarship, UD Study Abroad Scholarship, and a Fish and Game Scholarship. Zachary Haas will study Art at the University of Cincinnati. Allie Hall will attend Rhodes State College to become a Physical Therapy Assistant. She received the Minster Bank Scholarship.

Class Valedictorian Caroline Heitmeyer will attend Miami University to study Nutrition and Kinesiology. She was admitted into the Miami University Honors Program and received the Miami RedHawk Eminence Scholarship, Sidney Rotary Youth Scholarship, and the Hartzell-Norris Scholarship. Cassidy Hemm will attend Miami University and major in University Studies. She was admitted into the Miami University Honors Program and received the Miami University RedHawk Distinction Scholarship, Miami University RedHawk Grant, Piqua Rotary Four-Way Test Scholarship, DP&L – Vectren Scholarship, Piqua Rotary Scholarship, Piqua American Legion Ernest Johns award, Teen Leadership Corps Scholarship , and a Lundgard Scholarship.

Marianne Hissong will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Exploratory Studies. She received a Lundgard Scholarship. Emma Jacomet will major in Exploratory Studies at Ohio University. Michael Largent will attend Indiana Tech University and study Computer Engineering. He received the Indiana Tech Merit Scholarship and Indiana Tech Alumni Scholarship.

Kassie Lee will enroll in Capital University and study Nursing. She received the Capital Presidential Scholarship, Capital Award, Capital Rev. Rufus Tarrant Award, Capital Connect Award, Capital Sibling Award, Kauffman Family Scholarship, Archbishop Alter Scholarship, Fred and Clyemana Shane Nursing Scholarship, and a Lundgard Scholarship. Olivia Leece will major in Nursing at the University of Kentucky. She received the UK Bluegrass Spirit Scholarship, UK Century Scholarship, Piqua Rotary Scholarship, Piqua Optimist Chuck Wagner Memorial Scholarship , Miami County Safety Council Scholarship, and a Lundgard Scholarship.

Clayton Malone will attend Cincinnati State University. His major is undecided. John Meyer will attend the University of Toledo and major in Computer Science and Engineering. He received the UT Honors Award Scholarship, Burger King Scholarship, Bill and Marilyn Kingseed Scholarship, and the Mary Agnes Brandewie Scholarship. Stephen Monnin will attend The Ohio State University and major in Finance. He received the Buckeye Insurance Scholar Athlete Scholarship, OSU Signature Award, and a Lundgard Scholarship.

Class Salutatorian Nick Neumeier will attend The Ohio State University and major in Biochemistry. He has been admitted into the Honors Program and the Morrill Scholars Program. He received the OSU Morrill Distinction Scholarship, Walter and Lucille Daniel Scholarship, and the Sister Ginny Scherer Chemistry Scholarship. Avery Pickrel will attend Edison Community College and study Mechanical Engineering. Emmalea Rego will attend Rhodes State College and major in Dental Hygiene.

Emily Reinhart will attend the University of Dayton and major in Strategic Management and Marketing. She received the UD Dean’s Merit Scholarship, UD Forever Flyer Grant, and the Knights of Columbus Youth Scholarship. Max Schutt will attend Wright State University and study Business Management. Twin brothers Tyler and Zack Scott will both enroll at the University of Kentucky of major in Business.

Adriana Sehlhorst will attend Miami University and study Business. She was admitted into the University Honors Program and received the Miami Bridges Program for Excellence Scholarship, Miami RedHawk Excellence Scholarship, Elizabeth and Leon Brown and Frank and Sara Montross Scholarship, Mark Wurm Business Scholarship, and the Little Kinger Scholarship. Emma Simpson will attend Miami University and major in Integrated Language Arts Education. She received the Miami University RedHawk Distinction Scholarship.

Ian Smith will attend the University of Cincinnati and study Mechanical Engineering. He received a Lundgard Scholarship. Madeline Smith will also attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Nursing. She received a Lundgard Scholarship. Connor Thobe will attend The Ohio State University and major in Business Economics/Law. He was admitted into the Honors Program and received the OSU Provost Scholarship, OSU Dean’s Promise Scholarship, OSU Scarlet & Gray Grant, OSU President’s Grant, Herb and Antoinette Schlater Area Energy & Electric Scholarship, Sidney Youth Soccer Scholarship, Kiwanis Club of Sidney Scholarship, and the William A. Ross Family Scholarship .

Christopher John Trahey will attend the University of Cincinnati and major in Architecture. He received the UC Cincinnatus Century Scholarship. Linh Tu-Nguyen will study Accounting at Bowling Green State University. She received the BGSU Success Scholarship and the DJ and SA Smith Accounting Scholarship. Adam Vanderhorst will attend The Ohio State University and study Finance. He received the OSU Scarlet and Gray Scholarship, OSU Presidential Scholarship, and the Robert and Delores Peters Scholarship.

Ana Vazquez will enter The Ohio State University and major in Biochemistry. She received the OSU Morrill Scholar Program and the OSU Morrill Prominence Scholarship. Alex Wiseman will attend The Ohio State University – Lima and study Business. He received the OSU Lima Buckeye Distinction Scholarship and the Ross Family Scholarship.
