King retires from Christian Academy

SIDNEY — Charlene King, of Sidney, has retired from Christian Academy Schools.

A teacher for 30 years, King earned her Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University, where she majored in physical education, aquatics and health.

She taught algebra, geometry, health, physical education and was on the faculty of Newton High School in Pleasant Hill, as well as the faculty of Christian Academy here during her career.

The best thing about teaching, she said in answer to a Sidney Daily News questionnaire, was “the students, especially when they learn something new.” Discipline and respect are what changed the most during her three decades in the classroom.

While King looks forward to spending more time with her family, she wrote that she will miss her students.

King’s family includes her husband, Dave, their daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Kahn Kellams, their three sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Samantha King, Mike and Krista King, and Jeff and Heather King, their grandchildren, K.J., Keaton, Kye and Kaylene Kellams, and her mother, Marabelle Wiehe, who is 97.

When she isn’t teaching, King enjoys swimming, biking and playing the piano.

“Thank you for all my good years,” she said.
