Fire, EMS responds to 359 calls

SIDNEY — In May, personnel of the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services responded to 275 EMS calls and 84 fire calls for a total of 359 calls compared to 242 calls in May 2015.

On May 23, the department welcomed four new firefighters: Caleb Dersch, Adam Schulze, Derek Stitzel and Andrew Zumberger. Also on May 23, Mark Pleiman received the Firefighter of the Year award for 2015 at the city council meeting.

The Nancy Adams Training Center was remodeled with a generous donation from her family and is now equipped with the most efficient technology equipment.

Personnel conducted in-house EMS classes and toured Miami River Stone. Two personnel attended a three-day confined space training and two attended the May Chamber Leadership class.

The fire prevention division performed 18 inspections and handled three complaints. Special inspections were conducted at Rivers Edge Bar, First United Methodist Church and the Shelby County Fairgrounds.

There were no fire investigations this month.
