MINSTER — High school faculty from Auglaize and Mercer county schools visited Precision Strip, as well as other local companies, as part of the AMBE Alliance initiative.

AMBE (Auglaize Mercer Business Education) was formed to create a partnership between school districts and businesses. The connection creates greater awareness to local educators about career opportunities within the surrounding community businesses.

To kick off the visit at Precision Strip, Don Bornhorst, vice president, gave an overview of the company, focusing primarily on its values and developing associates to maintain the “promote from within” philosophy. Associates in the production setting may begin their career as a packaging technician, but with some provided training and development, are able to promote to other opportunities.

Managers from departments including Engineering, Information Technology, Accounting/Finance, Transportation, Safety/Quality, and Operations shared career paths at Precision Strip. They encouraged job shadows so that students have a greater understanding of career options.

The group then toured the campus to see its in-house software development, engineering, and processing capabilities in action.

Precision Strip was founded in 1977 in Minster, Ohio. Over the past 39 years, it has grown to 13 locations throughout Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Michigan and employs over 1,200 associates. Facilities include three million square feet of building space with in-house engineered slitting and cut-to-length processing lines, along with a fleet of over 200 company owned trucks. Each plant is strategically located to provide warehousing and delivery of steel and aluminum coils to the automotive, appliance, industrial products, and beverage can industries.
