Botkins BOE sets tuition rate, accepts donations

BOTKINS — At the regular meeting of the Botkins Board of Education Wednesday the board set the 2016-2017 tuition rate at $5,544.60 as determined by the Ohio Department of Education.

Also at the meeting they accepted a donation of $28,855.26 from the Botkins Athletic Boosters through the Community Foundation of Shelby County for the track and soccer complex equipment.

They also accepted a donation of $200 to the Memorial Fund in memory of Joe Hageman.

They approved the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center Agreement for the new Gifted Intervention Specialist, Bobbie Young. As well as hired the following substitute teachers: Joseph Sponseller, Bob Reed, Janelle Lowry, and Alexandra Fisher (and aide).

They also hired the following extracurricular positions:

• Chad Berning, 5th Quarter Grant

• Alan Egbert, track and field events (pole vault)

• Ryan Piche, 7th grade girls basketball

• Rob Berryman, RoBotkins at $19.50/hour

• Olivia Schneider, musical assistant director

They approved two overnight trips for FFA. The Livestock Judging Team will participate in the Keystone International from Oct. 7 to 9, 2016, and the entire group will attend the National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, from Oct. 19 to 22, 2016

In addition to approving the treasurer’s report by fund, the investment report, and cash balance report as presented, they approved a Then and Now purchase order to Donald Summer for the purpose of tile/drainage repair and work in the amount of $5102.50.

They also approved a change order for an asphalt walkway for ADA compliance at the track/soccer complex. The bleachers project will be soon completed once the particular permits go through as needed.

The board adopted the admission prices for the 2016-17 school year as the same as last year. Season passes will also remain the same, $45 for a student pass and $85 for an adult pass.

They authorized the athletic trainer, after consulting with MD, to grant clearance to athletes to return to participation following a concussion.

The school board also approved the kindergarten bus routes as presented for the 2016-17 school year and authorized the superintendent to make changes as needed.

In the public comments portion, Spencer Heuker spoke about his eagle scout project. he in interested in tracking down the bell that used to be atop the old Botkins School where the pool sits now.

Eric Guckes gave an update on fall club soccer. The addition of junior high soccer was also discussed. The athletic department is going to do some more vetting to determine if other schools in the area will be implementing a junior high program.

Casey Dietz was also there to request for support of the Louise Sheets grant for Cole Field. She also updated the board on the progress of Cole Field. They would like to improve the bleachers, and add a water fountain.
