District 9 volleyball coaches recently selected their All-District Volleyball teams for the 2016 season, and again the county was well-represented.

Heading the list was senior standout Cassie Meyer of Jackson Center, who was named the Player of the Year in Division 4.

In addition, her coach, Kim Metz, was named the Coach of the Year.

Division 1

In Division 1, two players from Sidney were chosen, including senior hitter Amanda Thomas and junior setter Carrie Nuss. Thomas led the Lady Jackets with 241 kills and Nuss 549 assists.

Division 3

In Division 3, the Anna Lady Rockets had three players named. Leading hitter Krista Gehret was named to the first team, sophomore Emma Meyer to the second team and senior Kennedey Glover to the Honorable Mention list. Gehret leads the Lady Rockets in kills with 362.

Junior Danielle Winner and sophomore Elizabeth Ording of Versailles were both named to the first team, and junior Kami McEldowney and junior Ellen Peters were named to the second team.

Division 4

And in Division 4, No. 1-ranked Jackson Center put three players on the first team and one on the second. First-team selections are seniors Cassie Meyer, Camryn Hoehne and Alicia Kessler, and the second-team pick is senior Christen Ware.

Meyer was the Lady Tigers’ leading hitter with 215 kills during the regular season, and Kessler had 130. Meyer also led in aces with 50 and Kessler added 31. Hoehne had 170 digs and 49 ace serves.

Fort Loramie had two players named to the first team and two to the second. Named to the first team were senior Caleigh Barhorst and senior Maeve Hilgefort, and named to the second are senior Taylor Ernst and senior Sara Stang.

Barhorst led the Lady Redskins in kills with 418 and also had 275 digs and 43 aces. Hilgefort had 128 kills and 41 aces, and led the team with 53 blocks. Ernst had 275 digs and Stang 253 digs.

Lehman had one players named to each of the first two teams and two more to the Honorable Mention list. Sidney Chapman was named to the first team. She was the Northwest Central Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row and had 537 kills going intop Wednesday night’s action, along with 324 digs.

Named to the second team is senior Madison Hussey, who had 403 digs.

Ellie Scott and Alexis Snipes were both named to the Honorable Mention list.

Fairlawn senior Audrey Francis was also a first-team choice. She had 334 kills and was the area leader in digs with 493.

Senior teammate Chelsie Brautigam was named to the Honorable Mention list.

Russia’s record-setting defensive specialist, junior Whitney Pleiman, was also named to the first team, and sophomore teammate Laurissa Poling was named to the second team. Pleiman finished the regular season with 421 digs and went over 1,000 for her career this season. Poling had 120 kills, second on the team.

Russia’s Christina Gaerke was named to the Honorable Mention list.

Sarah Bergman, a junior from Botkins, was named to the second team. She led the Lady Trojans with 253 kills during the regular campaign, along with 352 digs.

Riverside junior Marissa Davis was also a first-team pick after an outstanding season. She finished with 419 kills, 44 assists and 229 digs.

Teammate Shelby Giles, a sophomore, was named to the Honorable Mention list.
