Women for Trump stop in Sidney

SIDNEY — The Spot restaurant in downtown Sidney was “the spot” to be Friday afternoon when Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, and the Women for Trump campaign group made a pit-stop along their campaign trail.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have four days till victory! Just four. On Tuesday, we are gonna send the biggest message to Washington D.C., because when we elect Donald Trump as our 45th president, he’s going to D.C., and the gravy-train is over, folks,” Lara Trump said to the roaring crowd.

Lara, along with North Carolina bloggers Diamond and Silk, and Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, briefly made an appearance outside of The Spot along their way to Friday evening’s rally in Wilmington. The women greeted some 100 Trump backers boasting their support by waving flags, and adorning stickers, pins and hats echoing Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

“What a beautiful bunch of ‘deplorables!’” said a Trump campaign aide before introducing the “Women for Trump.”

“The Trump-train is coming through, so they either gotta get on board, or get out of the way,” said Lara Trump of politicians in Washington. “The movement in this country is because of people like you. Hardworking Americans are sick and tired of what is going on in this country. And Donald Trump is sick and tired of it, too.”

“Ohio is gonna win for Trump,” boasted Pierson. “You guys have made all of the difference. All of the working Americans who have said, ‘enough is enough.’ We want someone who is going to put Americans first, and our children first, and we have that in the candidate of Donald Trump.”

“We are here on this women’s tour to get out the vote and get this country fixed,” Pierson enthusiastically said to the clapping crowd. “Donald Trump is gonna go to Washington, D.C. and ‘drain the swamp!’”

Bloggers Diamond and Silk continued to rally the crowd when Silk said, “It’s not about ovaries in the Oval Office; it’s about who has the balls to build a wall.”

Silk asked attendees if they were ready for secure boarders, to say “Merry Christmas” again, and be able to stand up and salute the American flag, to get on the Trump-train and “vote for Donald J. Trump.”

People of all ages stood outside of The Spot hoping to get close and partake in the campaign stop opportunity.

Nine-year-old Ian Laughlin-Jarrell stood on the corner in anticipation with his great-aunt, Robin Laughlin, and was eager to make his thoughts for support of Trump known.

“He’s the best choice,” said Laughlin-Jarrell, of Sidney, of why he wants Trump to win the presidency on Nov. 8.

Ann Cordonnier, of Russia, said of the campaign stop and Trump, “I’m here to support pro-life. He is my best chance of hoping to get America back on track. I am tired of politicians on both sides of the aisle, promising things during the campaign and not standing up to it. How can you elect a candidate who is being investigated on several levels?”

When asked about her thoughts on some of the negative comments Trump has said about women, she said, “It is suspect. They haven’t come up with this till now. That is very suspicious. It’s a wash. Bill and Hillary have their own dirty laundry on sexual issues, as well.”

Lara Trump also expressed to the Sidney Daily News her thoughts on the comments regarding women, “The reality is that we go all across this country, and women are the people that come up to us the most and say, ‘We don’t know why there is a narrative out there that we are not voting for Donald Trump, because we understand he is the only one who will get this country back on track.’

“Things get said by a lot of people. There are people that are very lucky that they haven’t been recorded their entire life. That was 11 years ago. He is a different man. He wants real change in this country. He wants to make a difference in this country and men and women, alike, know that. In fact, he has rolled out the most progressive platforms for women, a childcare initiative, an elder-care plan. These are the things that will effect Americans across the board, but specifically, women,” Lara continued.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s office and Sidney Police officers were present to make sure things went smoothly and peacefully.

“I’m always excited when presidential visits are here, whether it’s them or the president, or their staff. I think it makes our county; our city; spotlight, and always welcome it,” said Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart. “Even though I’m a Republican, I still like the Democrats to stop in, too. I just think it’s a part of our American system; so many people died for, and I respect that process.”

Julie Ehemann, executive chairperson of the Shelby County Republican Central Committee, said of the turnout, “The whole campaign has been very positive about Trump. There have been people been coming out of the woodwork that haven’t been politically involved, previously, and they are all excited for Trump.”

Nearly some 100 people turned out to hear Lara Trump talk in front of The Spot Friday, Nov. 4.
