VERSAILLES — Back for another year is Versailles FIRST LEGO League Tournament.

Local teams competing this Saturday, Nov. 19, include students from Russia, New Bremen, Christian Academy, Hardin-Houston, Botkins, Fort Loramie, Jackson Center, Anna, and further places like Toledo, Coldwater, Marion Local, Van Wert and Eaton.

Guided by two or more adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams (students from 4th grade through junior high) research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGOs, then compete on a table-top playing field.

Locally, employees of Honda mentor some of the student teams, and will in attendance on Saturday.

The teams will be in private judging sessions throughout the morning then an opening ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m., with official rounds beginning at 12:45 p.m. At 4 p.m. when all teams have competed, there will be a parade of teams, with an award ceremony following.

The event is free and open to the public and will be held at Versailles High School. For questions you may call Christie Rindler, tournament director, at 937-564-1532.
