ANNA — The Anna FCCLA Chapter and two thousand youth members gathered at the National Cluster meeting in Orlando, Florida, recently.

The meeting provided opportunities to compete in career-applicable demonstrations, ranging from interviewing skills and impromptu speaking to technology and teaching. Teams also competed in knowledge-based events such as personal finance, consumer responsibilities, technology, health and safety, and more. Students demonstrated the skills they’ve learned through FCCLA, while experiencing new people and surroundings.

Anna had several FCCLA members place in the following events:

• Nathan Poeppelman received first place in the Hospitality, Tourism and Recreation Challenge.

• Lauren Barhorst got second place in Speak Out for FCCLA.

• Ashley Ferguson got third place in Impromptu Speaking.

• Caleb Baughman received first place and Morgan Meyer received second place in the FCCLA Knowledge Challenge.

These members represent the Anna Chapter greatly, and placed well in their events.

While in Orlando, Anna FCCLA members participated in Disney’s leadership training called, “Disney Leadership Strategies for Youth.” They explored the relationship between good leadership and successful business strategies. They learned how to run a successful business through the value of communication, training, and empowerment by employee training and guest satisfaction. Disney’s leadership program brought Anna FCCLA members together as a team, and encouraged them to lead others.

Overall, the National Cluster meeting was a success due to how well local members placed in their skill events, and because of the great leadership program Anna FCCLA members participated in.
