The last time the Sidney Yellow Jackets played at home, they struggled badly in suffering their only loss.

Such was not the case Friday night with archrival Piqua coming to town.

The Jackets were in control from the start and wopund up with a 68-31 rout. Sidney went to 3-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division, and is now 4-1 overall. They return to action Tuesday at Vandalia, which was unbeaten going into Friday night’s game against Troy.

The Yellow Jackets dominated in the early going.

With the Indians hounding Sidney sophomore Andre Gordon, Ratez Roberts took advantage, scoring the Jackets’ first seven points and nine of the first 11.

Sidney rolled on to a 19-3 lead after a quarter, then scored the first four of the second period to push the margin up to 20.

By the half, the Jackets were in control, leading 35-14. Gordon had 12 and Roberts 11 at the break.

Things continued the same way in the third quarter, with Sidney expanding the lead to 54-22. When the fourth quarter starter, Josiah Hudgins was the only one of the original starters on the floor.

Gordon finished with 18 points and Roberts added 15. They were the only two in double figures, but four others had five or more, including Devan Rogers with nine and Allec Gordon with eight.

Lessing sets record

Fairlawn had an easy time with Houston in County boys basketball action Friday night, 64-36 in a game highlighted by senior Nathan Lessing setting a new career scoring record at Fairlawn.

Lessing went into the game needing just 14 points to tie former Jet standout Andy Francis, who scored 1,657 points. Lessing hit a free throw with 20.1 seconds left in the first half to give him 15 for the game at that point, and 1,658 for his career.

Lessing went on to score 28 points in the game to lead the Jets to their fourth win in five tries this season. Houston is 1-3 in the league and 1-4 overall.

Fairlawn also got 14 points from Keshon Johnson while Houston got 17 from Cameron Arnold and 10 from Dylan Hensley.

Anna 55, Russia 47

ANNA — Anna pulled off an upset in County basketball action Friday, beating Russia at home 55-47

The win puts the Rockets at 2-2 in the County and 3-2 overall. Russia drops to 2-1 in the league and is now 4-2 overall.

The Rockets got a big game from Wyatt Bensman, who finished with 28. Mason Platfoot added 10. Bensman was 9-for-12 from the free throw line.

Jack Dapore had 13 for the Raiders and Cole Tebbe added 12.

Jackson Center 39, Botkins 36

BOTKINS — Jackson Center and Botkins battled throughout in County play Friday night, and in the end, Jackson came away with a hard-fought 39-36 victory.

Jackson goes to 2-1 in the league and 4-1 overall with Indian Lake coming to town tonight. Botkins is 0-4 in the league and 2-4 overall.

The Tigers found themselves trailing the Trojans 19-18 after two quarters and were down 27-24 heading to the final period. But they pulled it out in the final minute.

“We were up by four and they didn’t take the lead until just a minute was left,” said Botkins coach Brett Meyer. “We had a few turnovers, and they got a huge block from Brady Wildermuth.”

Wilddermuth had 28 of his team’s 39 points, including 11 in the final period. The Trojans got 15 from Luke Bergman and 10 from Ethan Butcher.

New Knoxville 35, Parkway 34

ROCKFORD — New Knoxville went on the road and grabbed a win in Midwest Athletic Conference play, edging Parkway 35-34 Friday night.

The win puts the Rangers at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the league heading to Lima Shawnee tonight.

Nick Topp came up big for the Rangers, scoring 17 points, including seven in the fourth quarter.
