Scouts restore plaque, install path at bridge

SIDNEY — A new path has been installed at the Gold Star Mothers bridge. The plaque at the bridge has also been restored.

Tom Frantz, Troop 97 scoutmaster, discovered the Gold Star Mothers plaque and surrounding area was in disrepair at the bridge. He decided Troop 97 would improve the area.

The plaque, located at the bridge on County Road 25A, south of Sidney, was placed at the site on Nov. 11, 1999. The plaque was facing north, making it hard for anyone to read because of limited access. The ground in the area had eroded and needed maintenance.

Adult leaders of the troop determined the sign needed to be turned and a pathway established for easier access. Boxwoods were planted behind the sign. Rocks were installed lining the pathway and boulders were placed on each side of the pathway. The sign was cleaned of rust and dirt and then repainted.

Service to the community and honoring the Gold Star Mothers is one way of keeping with the highest traditions of the Boy Scouts of America, said Scoutmaster Chuck Craynon.

Adult leaders who worked on the project were Frantz, Rodney Wiford, Tim Musser and Jerry Tangeman. Scouts were assisted with the project were Aidan Tangeman, Alan Tangeman and Devan Wiford.
