December 28, 1916

About 15 minutes after 10 o’clock last night a bold highway man walked into the City Restaurant, and, holding the night clerk, Elza Wiford, at the point of a revolver, robbed the cash register of $22 and made his getaway. So quickly was the robbery carried off that Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sarver, who were in the kitchen of the restaurant, knew nothing of the holdup, until Wiford ran into the kitchen and told them.

75 Years

December 28, 1941

Japanese war planes for the first time raided the great United States naval base at Corregidor in Manila Bay today.

With plans for the right-of-way for the new Court Street bridge, calling for removal of the building and equipment of the Sunset Oil Co. on East Court Street, the operations have been moved to the Shell station at the post office corner. The Court Street location was the home office and the first station operated by Sunset Oil, for the past 15 years under the ownership of Ray Burke. He said today that because of world conditions there is some question whether the station will be replaced later.

50 Years

December 28, 1966

Paul Webb, son of Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Webb, Turtle Creek Township, was elected president of the Shelby County junior fair board at its annual meeting today. Young Webb is a member of the Future Farmers of America Chapter at Hardin Houston High School. Steve Knouff, of Cynthian Township, was elected vice president of the fair board. The new secretary is Marcia Bender, Cynthian Township, a member of the Cynthian Flying Needles 4-H Club. Elected treasurer of the junior board is Kathie Bensman, of Turtle Creek Township, a member of the Fort Loramie 4-H Livestock Club.

December 28, 1991

NEW YORK (AP) – The black snub-nosed revolver that Jack Ruby used to kill Lee Harvey Oswald before a TV audience of millions has been auctioned to a New Jersey gun collector for $220,000, much of which will go to pay Ruby’s taxes. The .38-caliber Colt Cobra, with its police evidence tag still attached, was quickly auctioned Thursday at the Omni Park Central Hotel, with bidding opening at $100,000.

ANNA – Anna High School student Darrel Reese has been named Teen-ager of the Month for November by the Sidney Optimist Club.
